View Full Version : Wireless networking - extending???

I have a wireless network at home, consisting of an ADSL router / access point in one. Netger jobbie :)

Now, the PC in my room just about reaches the access point, because I have a directional antenna on a bit of wire poking out of the window, and a low loss antenna on the router. I wish to add more PC's to the network in my room, but further away than my PC is, and I want to be able to move them about at my leisure...

How can I extend the range from the router, through my room, and beyond?

Will an additional access point let me attach extra devices, and talk to the router? Or do I need a repeater... or a bridge??? I'd like to keep with Netgear if possible :)

And no, I don't want to use wires! :no:

Cheers

Try one of these:

Should work ok with your Netgear stuff.

Oooh, nice, small!

How does it work? Do I just plug that in and let it go, or do I need to attach another wireless access point to it?

Reading the datasheet it looks like it converts a wired ethernet signal to wireless. No mention of bridging 2 wireless access points to extend range... Is that just implied functionality?

My setup will be as follows:
Router/Access Point <----> Bridge <----> PC's with wireless cards

you need an access point that has a bridge facility

connect the two access points together in infrastructure mode

summit like that
