Well that was a first....

Driving down Cowley Road in Uxbridge, and as I go past a set of traffic lights, a silver rover darts out of the turning right lane & draws up behind me. Thought it was a daft thing to do, but nothing more. Then further down the road a stationery que builds up, but as I am drawing up to the queue, said tosser in the silver rover rams the back of my car & nearly puts me into the car in front!!!

An accident, surely? I get my wits back, indicate to pull over, look in my rear view to see if the offender is about to do the same only to find that the guy driving thinks it's hilarious... I'm bl00dy fuming at this stage, but hesitate to get out of the car as I spot a passenger & another shadow in the back (car windows were tinted). For some reason I had the notion it might be a car-jacking about to take place! The car that hit me had already sustained damage to it, and the 20 something driver & his 2 pals were laughing !!! TO$$ERS I thought - it must have read right across my face, cos the next thing the guy driving is giving me evil shitty looks like he wants to start something!! We stared each other out for a while, before sense & a will to live got the better of me & I carried on in the queue, waiting to see what they would do next.

As it turns out, a bit further down the road there was a police manned road block! The car in question turned right & buggered off!

I have reported this to the police, I don't know if anything will come of it, cos the car never stopped & the police woman explained that it may be difficult to prove that the owner of the car was the driver!!!! I got a good look at the driver's ugly face tho & reckon I could recognise that sucka if I saw him again

So if anyone sees the following car in Uxbridge or surrounding areas, give him the finger for me!!:

Silver Rover 200
EY51 MVW
W@nk Chrome wing mirrors
Lexus style Chrome effect rear lights (ffs!!)
Front bonnet pushed up from previous accident damage
W@nky beige handwriting sticker on the back

By the way, if there's any way to verify the car's description to the plate, that would be useful (an address even more so! lol)

Cheers,

Phil

And that's the second incident to happen to me on the cowley road!!!! I'm gonna avoid it in future....!

Thanks guys! AA car check verifies the plate as belonging to a Rover MG ZR105, so that seems to tally up at least

Can't you report it to the police as someone hitting you, and leaving the scene of an accident? Then the police will have to do something about it, using the reg number you got.

If it was stolen by pikeys, surely this is still covered in some way by the insurance system, just like if someone who was uninsured hit you, you would be covered - can't remember what the term is for it, but when uninsured drivers have accidents, their damages are covered by the government, who then share out that cost to all of the countrys insurance companies. Hence why uninsured drivers drive up our premiums, as that's how the insurance companies recoup their losses.

I reckon the police at the roadblock probably just couldn't be arsed to help you if it wasn't what they were there for, and fobbed you off.

Oh BTW, you have my sympathies, to have someone blatantly fcuk with your car while you are in it? That sucks!

Phyza
29-05-2004, 21:31
I'll certainly give it a try. If it turns out to not be stolen, but the owner suffers a bout of amnesia about who was driving, do I still have recourse against the owner of the car?!? :smash:

I reckon either they have taken mommys car for a blat or its nicked. If you have a car that new you wouldnt do that would you

Think you where right to stay in the car or you might not have it now

No idea... you'd hope that the rules that apply when you can't remember who was driving when you get caught by speed cameras, apply here - ie, if you can't remember, the finalresponsibility for the vehicle lies with the owner.

I recommend you speak to the citizens advice bureau, rather than take the polices word for it if they say they still can't help you, as the Police are not legal experts, and do not always have all the facts.

That's crap mate, but I feel you made the right decision by staying in the car, sounds like they were pissed not pikeys and were daring each other on...

How much damage to your car then, I assume it's fairly light, did they get the zorst a all?

Maybe this is what flamer kits are for  feckers

Phyza
30-05-2004, 09:53
I was lucky I guess(?!?), cos they hit a little to the right & missed the zorst. Not really much damage, other than scratches on the bumper which I was going to replace anyway (Matt S has got one I hope to have off him).

If they find the person I will be claiming for that, & the slight crease in the rear quarter panel & the slight crack in the offside light which all happened on that day, ahem :D But I really don't have too much expectation that the person was responsible enough to have insurance, tax, brain, etc!

It's just the shitty attitude of these people to do something like this... I'm sure a permanent limp from a thorough kneecapping would serve as a reminder why stuff like this is a bad idea!! lol

not knowing who was driving is an excuse you can use to avoid speed camera fines, not insurance claims. if the owner has insurance it doesnt matter who was driving. i would definitely report it to the police. as has already been said, leaving the scene of an accident is a crime.

i have said this before but, we need a system the same as they have in sweden. they have a national database available to the general public so anyone can find out the name and address of a vehicle owner from the reg number. for some reason people in sweden are a lot more courteous when driving.

The police are crap. I had someone uninsured write off my s12, I had to chase him and he eventually pulled over. My mobile battery was run out so i couldn't call the police. Anyway when I got hold of him I got hold of a bank card from him to get his identity. Then I reported it to the police, and heard nothing for 2 months. Then I chased the old bill and they said they weren't going to do anything. Wouldn't give me a reason, they couldn't be bothered. Then I had to call my insurance company. What they will do is find out who the car is insured to and contact their company. If they're not insured then you have to claim off the Motor Insurers Bureau. This won't affect your NCB.

You don't have to stop though, if you feel threatened by the situation you can drive to a police station and report it there... Which you did :)

Insurance ran a database check on the car - it's not coming up with any insurance listing!

So it's not insured unless it's part of a company fleet... :wack:

You insure people, not cars ;)

For instance, *I* am insured to drive car's x, y z (and every car third party not belonging to me).

The cars I often drive, don't have insurance, as they don't belong to me. As long as I have the owners permission, and the vehicle is taxed & MOT'd, it's all gravy

Still, good luck nailing the idiot bastid. You can find his address if you are willing to pay a couple of quid... :smash:

Umm.. Normally the car has to be insured one someone elses policy before you are insured to drive it TPF&T on your own insurance.. (it's normally in the small print on the insurance docs).

That doesnt work unless they are a fee paying passenger (neutral/un-biased) and dont forget you can invalidaite your ins by taking fee paying passengers.....

edit, to say soz about this, and hope you get your car & them sorted!! Maybe their plan was to get in in trouble with the Police for not stopping

Hope it all works out then mate, they hit you and then drove off when they saw the police roadblock, It just makes the bloke look bad. You can mention how he was laughing, and the fact you'd thought it mite be a carjacking. Or you could give the police a photocopy of your first thread without any links to the website. Doesnt sound like a company car either, with the tints and other crappy mods you described in the first post, would be fantastic if he gets done for driving without insurance. Oh and then theres your claim for the back injury ;)

say you thought he was drunk and as there were a lot of them you daren't stop.

how'd he get your details anyway??

Phyza
29-06-2004, 19:43
the only thing i can think is that he took my reg plate. Surely the police can't advise him my details in correspondence?

Makes me wonder if this was pre-meditated - his car already had front end damage when he rammed me

luckily I reported it straight away
