I have a machine here that keeps changing to http://4.6.8 or something like that.
No Norton Corporate doesn't find anything.

Not sue if it's been rebooted, probably not, it's not the sort of thing we do here.

Well you got less choice of vunerabilities than Linux lol....

What a load of old toss. I had this yesterday and had the laptop on and off all day without problems. Just look in the windows directory for a file titled the same as your new homepage and delete it, problem solved.

Yes, but sometimes there's some malicious little program that installs itself before you do that and can stuff everything up a bit. I know I've had websites set themselves as my homepage and have stopped them the way you say, but they've also installed little bastard programs that run in the background and keep changing it back again. I look for any odd things in the processes tab in taskmanager and kill them there, first. Then search and delete anything containing the same details.

I have Java scripting on "Prompt": if I don't trust the site, I don't let it run scripts.

Why is it allways the computer "less literate" that keep peddling this crap
If you hear this kind of sh1t through email.....its bulklsh1t
if you hear it from a mate......its bullshit
if you hear it from some tosser off the street....its bullshit
If however you hear it from one of the large AV companies then its trumped up bullshit by at least there's a germ of truth in there.

www.sophos.com
www.symantec.com
I ignore www.grisoft.com since their AV product sucks donkey balls.

Oh and go to http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/hoaxes/ if you want to find a nice supply of this bullshit.

Why is it that users will happily believe any bullsh1t from any random person, just because its emailed to them?
Its like some twat grabbing you in the street and saying by the way...........

*shrug* might be poo, might not be. Certainly not impossible, nor terribly difficult to write a script that alters reg settings & gets the users machine to download files. Seen enough "dodgy" websites try to put trojans/viruses onto my system. Seen enuff infected customers systems too. Funnily enough, whenever I find them, it always seems to be sites offering MP3'd albums for dlding. Or pr0n.

By strange coincidence, badly infected customers machines always seem to have loads of MP3's on them. Or pr0n. :)

Oh how we're gonna miss dialup inet conx's. 0898-dialers are always such fun when the phone bill comes in. ;)

Can I just point out that there are now 2 other files equally dangerous - the first is called boot.ini and the second explorer.exe
They are both viruses so if you see them on your computer then that prives I'm telling the truth

:)

people will belive anything they get in an email... :)

not may modern viri feck up computers nowadays... :( a nice little TSR that does a low level format at the next restart... now that is simplistic, and beautiful... hell I might just write a batch file, name it 'RUN THIS AND IT WILL KILL YOUR PC.BAT' and email it around the place, asking people to send it to thier friends :) should get a few of the feckers... and they will deserve it... :D
