All of you who seem to be on here constantly whilst your at work.. how do you not get caught out, is there not a Admin guy who keeps watch from his own computer on what everyone is doing...spose this excludes those who actually do that job
but also if you spend all your time on here at work.. how do you get any work done and if youy dont how do you avoid being boll*ckd by the boss?

I am the boss.
I don't see anyone having a problem with that - DO I?
I just claim I'm doing research into website design if I'm ever questioned. Mind you, there are other people in work who abuse the internet far more than I do so their activities are noted more than mine! :)

Our MD is cool  He even offered to put in a games budget :D and he doesn't mind us doing what we want so long as the work gets done when it's there.
I couldn't care less what anybody thinks :D
I couldn't care less what anybody thinks :D
go and say that to your boss - right to his face  Dare ya :D
;)
I must do quite a lot of "research" at work, on t'internet for my job, if I have been sucessful I have time to look at SXOC, if I havent then I may as well be looking at SXOC ;)
go and say that to your boss - right to his face  Dare ya :D
Could be tricky
no mirrors round where you work ;)
My boss sits directly behind me and must see me tappin away into here. I dont think they mind too much so long as I don't take the mickey - we're on flexitime anyway so I always make sure I note up some time off for "breaks"
Could be tricky
You broken all of the mirrors in your house again then? ;)
We all know that JB doesn't care what anyone else thinks... It's one of the requirements for becoming a mod ;)
wish i could use the broadband connection at work  as it is, i have to use my special timedelay software, post in the evenings, and then hope the answers i post, get subsequent questions posted the next day.

Wont be able to when im on site. 'Strictly only business use' otherwise we get zapped cause they think were leaking secrets. :(
I only come on when I'm not busy, lately thats been a lot... plus my work don't appreciate how hard I've worked lately and have decided to show me no appreciation for it what-so-ever. So now I have the hump and don't really give a toss.
Tired of the corporate BS. Greed fueled f*cks.
I need a proper job I think, one where I do actual work rather than sitting in a sh*tty air conditioned office.

on site? where are you going/..what site:(?CONFUSION
whats flexitime..?
whats flexitime..?
I have to work 35 hours per week and can pretty much pick and choose when I work them, between the hours of 7 in morning to 8 at night. I can for example, pull a couple of 9 hour days and take a friday afternoon off

oh right i get it.. that sounds pretty good.. or is it one of those things that appear to be good but actually suck?

MBDA Missile Systems (http://www.mbda.net/) flexitimes cool, lets you work almost pretty much when you want. Adding hours of work in one time and taking them off somewhere else. We get half day on fridays so if you add like 4 hours through the week mon-thurs you can have friday off :)
its really really good IMO. the only problem I tend to have is that I go lazy towards the end of the month and end up workin my ass off trying to get back up on time again.
If you use it how it's supposed to be used, its excellent. All those times you need to nip off early to pick up your car from the garage, get a hair cut etc etc - excellent :)
I'm the ADmin Guy, and my Boss can't see my screen!
i am on here for about 7 hours of my day!
the other hour i'm having tea breaks! :thumbs
JB and Feisty seem to be on here the most though!

i could imagine if i had a flexitime job self-discipline would be a problem for me..
stil it seems good
so whos going to give me a flexitime job as either a boss or admin guy;)
oh right i get it.. that sounds pretty good.. or is it one of those things that appear to be good but actually suck?
Its good and bad.
It means you don't get paid overtime, but you can be expected to stay all hours (within the flexitime periods) to get stuff finished. At least that's how mine seens to work. Can take 1 day off every 2 months if/when I build up the time though.
go and say that to your boss - right to her face Dare ya
Go on then JB!! ;) :D
Be sensible: I just dap in and out on occasions.
Spending all day in surfy-land is just asking for it.
About three years ago when I worked in Cardiff the I.T. guy told me he's done a printout of usage and, whilst I had quite a few entries, they were short visits. Some people apparently spend HOURS on the web (like the admin guys! :wack: :p )
i shouldn't - and I'm sure I'll get my balls busted at some point :o
ditto.
And besides there's 60 year olds playing with thier skin flutes and stuff at work according to the posts on this site, puts posting on a BB every so often into perspective :)
Dunc.
Wanders off to look at MBDA's Proxy server logs :D
I'm the IT Manager (and I'm  ;) )

I'm a programmer, so a lot of my time is spent waiting for things to compile. The unofficial rule here just seems to be "don't take the pish". The bandwidth we use is monitored though, so there's no downloading videos at work :)
Some people apparently spend HOURS on the web (like the admin guys! :wack: :p )
Yeah but they delete their surfing from the statistics ;) Most of mine's work related webmail really TBH.
I'm the admin at our place, not that they know what I do really! As far as they're concerned, I get paid for 37.5 hours a week, and they know I'm here more than that, so as long as the network doesn't become unavailable (for planned maintenance or problems) more than a couple of days a year and I keep the teachers relatively happy then they're happy too :)
coz we're a school things like that aren't checked much, and if they are i do it so its
if they don't like it they can train someone else
they only pay me enough to be here, not do any work!

Company I work for is  Basically you can do what you want but if you don't do enough work I guess it would be noticed and someone would have a word. Basically I just make sure I do as much (usually more) than everyone else and to a high standard. Our boss is as bad as the rest of us so it's totally chilled but we get the "work" done to a high standard so everyone wins. We get let off early at random times, donuts and treats await us in the kitchen sometimes and we can work weekends for double money if we like and all we do is test computer games. :D :D [/smug git]
(Most of you probably get paid more than me though) :(

Im amazed I havent been pulled up about it yet though as im now near the middle of the room unlike my old place nicely tucked way in the corner with the monitor faceing the wall....

:) I hold a god like staus round thses parts... :) and im well known for starting late, finishing early and not wearing shirt, tie, trousers or proper shoes :D (i also get away with parking in the senior management car park when at the office :D)
it has often been commented that most of my meetings tend to happen on the Yacht, and that when out, all I do is check my car forums and drink coffe... :D
but all said and done... the work somehow always gets done :D:D
not wearing shirt, tie, trousers or proper shoes :D

You can tell that I'm working hard, can't you ;)
1) I am IT here :D
2) As most of the people who are on here are IT I see this as another legitimate area for me to be on in which I can get technical info on new virii etc...(thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it :wack: )

I don't post between 9 and 5 Monday to Friday
And even if I were to do so our proxy only tracks via IP address and we're on a dhcp with no allocation log.
But, like I said, I don't post during work time ;)
