ok here`s an obscure one for a 200sx board.
I`m on the wirral but want to drive to the lakes(or somewhere similair) like once a week and cycle on some of these mountain bike trails you see goin through the countryside.
I`ve got the car and bike rack but even after scouring the web a bit i cant find anywhere that`ll say
" go here. Here`s where the trail starts. Its this long and will bring you back to your car etc"
Just on the off chance that i can save myself anymore fruitless searching does anybody know of any sources for this info?
sorry
i know its a stupid one but well , there y`go http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Dunno about the web, but there's a couple of good books on this - called: "Mountain Bike Guide: the Lake District, the Howgills and the Yorkshire Dales". If you search for "Jeremy Ashcroft" on Amazon.co.uk you'll find them. Both come most recommended http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif And I've never met him, before you wonder about the plug http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
The routes that go along the High Street range are amazing (and actually well ride-able) and can be a circular route from Ambleside. Be careful of the Walna Scar Road rides - the rides look tempting, then turn into a hard walk in the country with your bike for company.
Also, not in the books, is a little bridleway that goes from the back of Ambleside park over to a place called Loughrigg. It's the best little bit of singletrack that we've found! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
If Derbyshire's within your reach (should be) there's some damn good riding there, without the sodding unridable bits you get in the Lakes.

yeah ambleside was exactly the image i had in my head cos we`ve stayed al Low Wray many times. And i`ve been on some walks up along the ridges there looking down over the lake.
Really high up (to me) i absolutely crapped myself when i got to the top .
I didnt like the look the Ram was giving me either.
Whats derbyshire like its not barren is it?
You might also want to try Coed-Y-Brenan in North Wales, it offers purpose built mountain biking trails ranging from the Red Bull @ 7 miles to Karrimor @ 23 miles long. They are awesome trails, don't bother going unless you have front shocks but you will really feel alive after a day on those. Each time I have been there, when I drive home afterwards, whenever I shut my eyes I can see rocks, trees, drop offs and twisting single track rushing towards me...

The nice bits (around Bakewell, Rowsley, Chatsworth, Baslow) are not barren at all - kinda like a less extreme Lake District (in riding terms). It's all good riding, and is still all rideable!
Think I wanna try the Red Bull Trail... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah, sorry my welsh ain't that good. Its actually Coed Y Brenyn, its near Dolgellau.
There is a small fee which I can't recall exactly. Maybe check out something like www.mbuk.co.uk (http://www.mbuk.co.uk) for more info?
All I can really tell you is that it is well worth finding it, grinding your way up the hills and making sure your bike is in top mechanical order!! You will love it.
