Are there any Linux kernel experts out there?

I've been building/debugging kernels for the last two days, it's great fun, not http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

What are you trying to do?
And what do you want to know?

I rebuild them a fair bit but try to avoid altering source code if at all poss.

Have you tried the lazy way?
cd /usr/src/linux
make xconfig
when your done type
make clean
make depend
make bz lilo
make modules
make modules_install
easy peasey and you dont get such a headache.
Wouldnt piss around with the source either as it's taken some long haired hippy's around the world ages to get it that messy.
I found this while going through some code once looking for a problem. quote:- If you have got this far down abandon yee all hope for there isnt much left to go wrong after here. other such jollies include an entire verse of jingle bells and variouse quotes from the hitch hickers guide to the galaxy, these guys are freaked out surley?

Yes, I've been through all that, just thought I'd share with everyone how exciting building kernels is!!! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm actually trying to get a linux VPN build into a Redhat kernel, very interesting.

OK - this is nothing to do with Linux, or kernels, but have you guys pissed about with load balanced Ethernet cards? I was shocked at the difference this made to my little 1U fileserver! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif
