How do folks
Bit out of place maybe but I'm getting a bit desperate. I'm moving to Stoke at the end of this month and I need to know of any estate agents round that way. I'm desparately looking for a room to rent so if anyones local to the area could they let me know. Also, on a slightly more car-related note are there any Jap-car meets held up there? Theres quite a few round this way (ips) but I've not heard much about Staffs.
Thanks - and apologies if this is mis-using the forum
Cheers
Wil
Ant is from Stoke IIRC - may be worth askin him :)
Don't. It's a shit-hole. :indiff:
But if you have to, the North Mids meet in Canock is worth going to.
Voodo Melon's from there as well.

Can't help with acommodation, but there's a Jap car meet every 2nd monday of the month at Mascrat, about 30 miles up the M6, there's also an sxoc meet every 3rd mondya of the month in Cannock. Think there's also one in Derby but I haven't been to that one...

Christ - sounds like something to look forward to then :D
Car meet sounds cool though - do you allow Honda?

Mascrat definitely will - it's a jap sports car meet.
Whereabouts in Stoke are you looking at?

Well I'm actually gonna be looking for a place in Leek cos thats where I'll be working - but trying to find a room to rent round there is next to impossible  .
So its going to be anywhere north side (easy now!!)
Leek isn't so bad - it's in the hills though so they love their bakeries - the people round there are into bread. :wack:

Thanks for your help guys
Its all a bit daunting cos I'm leaving all my friends and family behind. Still, plenty of nice roads round that way and the mountainbiking is meant to be real good so fingers crossed

I love the adventure
Keep away from the Festival Park retail park on a Fri, Sat and Sunday night, cause all the Nova boys and their toy`s cruise round all night, (when they arn`t being stopped by the police, cause they got their under car neon glowing. :ghey:

Its not too bad here mate, and its not all a shit hole, honest. Leek is near The Cloud, Buxton and then The Cat and Fiddle run (in that order) and they a) all rule for mountain biking and b) all rule for driving. Manifold Valley is one of the favourite spots to ride at, going up it is a nightmare im told. Good job i dont do "up" :) Indeed, 3 years ago there used to be a delapadated AE86 in Leek, just off that massive resivour on an old style petrol station..
I guess all area's have their good and bad parts, but it seems mostly all bad in Norton, Chell Heath and Bentilee IIRC.
www.thisisstaffordshire.com might well help you out mate, entertainment, housing, area's etc are all detailed in there i think. As pointed out, the Mascrat is the main meet, they are good lads and the organisers all have Prelude's so you'll be OK :) Festival Park hits fever pitch on a Sunday night after say 7pm, so id steer clear if i were you. Friday and Saturday isnt so bad if you wanna go to the cinema or play pool etc. Id recomend the Warner Village in Newcastle over the Odeon in the Festival Park anyway.. Oh, and speaking of the Festival Park, there is some OK riding to be done there too, on the old site. Its largely rural paths now, some good trials sections there too if that floats your boat..
Anyway, hope that helps mate!

Pretty much sums it up. Places that would be ideal to live (i.e. on the road to Leek - the A53) are Stockton Brook, Endon - not far from Leek and are quite nice. Not far from Stoke City Centre (called "Hanley" just to confuse visitors :wack: ) either - about 10 minute car drive. Just find the A53 on a map and you'll see where they are. Newcastle-under-Lyme is also a nice area to live (fantastic night out there too), but it may mean a little longer commute to work.
Like Paz says, one of the good about Stoke is that you're only ever 15 minutes away from the countryside if you ever want go for a drive. I went for a drive around the Buxton area Sunday afternoon and was pretty much on the Buxton road (all NSL empty roads) in just 20 minutes from where I live. 20 minutes in some cities wouldn't get you to the end of a road!

Stoke sucks - the countryside around it rocks - end of! :D
You can still have a good night out there in Hanley or Newcastle

Hello mate,
Me an the missus just moved up this way, her jobs moved to Stoke.
We're living in Sandbach, renting from an agency (McGarrigles) based in Alsager, if you need a tel no. I can find one tonight. Stoke sucks, but there are nice places in the area.
See you at a North-West meet.
Good luck
Chris

Oh your so right
Its not that bad really (depends where you originate from i suppose) like every one said tis a bit of a sh!t hole round most of the "5 towns" due to the decline in the pottery trade etc but in all fairness thats the case in most industial cities, but good roads are never more than 15mins away.
Leek is quaint and as mentioned the scenery round there is ace, Manifold valley is very nice and the walk up to Thors cave is challenging to say the least (IIRC), they make fantastic oatcakes up there ( in Leek....not in the cave ).
Car meets are not an issue as Voodoo said they go off all over the place and the Honda's welcome too.
If you need any more help please dont hesitate to ask we are a freindly bunch....most of the time....

I don't think stoke is that bad... true theres a lot of idiots at festival park and such but they make amusing roadkill if they ever stray onto the a500/a34.
Im just coming to the end of my 3yrs at uni in central london and to be perfectly honest Id rather live in stoke. the roads are useless in london and loaves of bread rarely go below 60p but I just find stoke is so much more of a town..i think its a good balance between size and facilities ie not so small as you cant find anything but not so big as it loses its feel as a town.
maybe ill change my mind when im back and i want 24hr buses and nice walks along the thames again.. but at the mo i cant wait to be back-the only negatives are the abundance of spikey teenagers causing trouble..and lack of jobs....and abundance of speed cameras on the a34...and the fact that you seem to go 10 years back in time on entering stoke....doh
