Whats a decent bit of software for downloading footage from a DV. I have something at the moment (imagemixer) and the filesize is always huge and the quality shit at full screen. I thought it supposed to be DVD quality

Ulead Video studio
Pinnacle Studio
Adobe Premiere
Sonic foundry Vegas Pro

Yeager swears by Vegas, I prefere Premiere, but it can be a pain in the ass :), Ulead is very user freindly but not great for intesive editing..

if it's interlaced dv (as most 1st/2nd gen cameras are only now are they coming up with non interlaced dv cams) then you'll need to get a prog that'll either fudge or interpolate it so it doesnt like shite

(also, if you try to encode interlaced video using one of the codecs that works by 'objects' mpeg etc. it'll look shite, the interlacing lines screw up the object stuff)

i use a combination of premiere for editing etc and virtual dub for encoding (is free too, so if you have a source file you just want to encode / run filters on, is fantastic)
