Upgraded the disk controller on main PC to newer version. Rebooted. Win2000 loads and freezes just as MSN is signing in, disk light on. Swore. Ctrl-Alt-Del, no effect. Swore more. Rebooted. Computer stuck trying to access primary hard disk partition. Swore a load more as that was the partition I couldn't back up and is now toast.

I hate Highpoint.

Can you not do a 'safe' reboot, and delete the new driver? or downgrade it to the one that came with the motherboard?

Never had a prblem with Highpoint at work, but then again, I dont faff until it breaks! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Got it sorted eventually. basically Abit are retarded in this respect http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Once I restored the partition that was nuked, with some errors, I ripped out all reference to the highpoint drivers, in the bios and OS. Put the hard disks back on the standard controllers unfortunately.
Anyway, Win2k is back (writing this message on the PC) and working, although the new motherboard BIOS that was installed at the time (which also upgraded the Highpoint bios) was pretty ****, not at all happy with Abit for that piece of cack, so running an older bios which does all I need it to. Back at 900mhz but not with all the old performance tweaks back in place yet as the PC seems unstable with them.

I look over at the Intel machine next to me and realise how little problems the intel machines have given me in the past. Despite AMD stuff being cheaper, I have a pretty bad aversion towards VIA chipset powered stuff so when I come to upgrade this one again, which I've been wanting to do for ages but that smokey piece of poo outside on the driveway has prevented me from, I'll be going back to intel methinks.
