Help - .avi downloads

Trying to view some files that come in .avi format, Realplayer spits it out saying audio format not recognised. Where can i get a .avi download from?

Use Windows Media Player - should be under Start Menu Accessories Multimedia possibly or do start, run, type in "mplayer2" and hit return.

This is the native player for AVI's, but AVI's can be 'encoded' in various formats and to play them you need a codec to decode the format - Media Player usually makes a good attempt at downloading anything required as and when it detects a strange file.
