the Daihatsu Charade GTti turbo? I know it's scrabbly scrabbly, but I reckon it could be an entertaining second car. 993 cc, 3 cylinder turbocharged engine. Almost 200SX quick on acceleration I believe. And you can pick them up quite cheap.

Car now dearly departed except for...
Blitz FATT type S turbo timer and a black ally tax disc holder. Just got a traction control system now, all I want is a 200SX again...

I remember J. Clarkson doing a deck-chair immpression to get in one, and chucking it up and down the aisles of Tesco!

Looks like a lot of fun, but be careful, 'cos if you buy a '91 - '93 model, they have 'leccy windows and that will up the weight by 50% http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

Yeah, mate of mine had one, he had a boost upgrade, filter and zorst on it! Not anywhere near 200 quick though(v.short gearing) but it is pretty nippy, ie. beats saxo's, 106's etc..Corner well too http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif Buy one there extremely fun http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

I thought they were 0-60 in about 7.9 seconds standard? Top speed isn't anything to write home about, but I wouldn't be bothered by that anyway. A little bit of modding, and I reckon it'd show up a few "faster" cars quite easily. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif

As for availability, I haven't seen any for sale. Don't think they sold a lot from new?

Expect to pay about £2000 for a decent Gtti - if you can find one, but you could pick up a knackered shed for about £500. Parts are even more expensive than Nissan ones, the engines are a bastard to work on and they look pants. They are quick AND cheap to run though. Personally I would go for something like a Suzuki Swift GTi or a Honda CRX 1.6i (non V-tec) cos they're just about as quick and cheap but a little easier to find.

Remember who tuned them for Diahatsu? Same guys who made that 'official' turbo mod for the MX-5 .. Brodie Brittain Racing!! Yes, good old BBR .. don't suppose anyone's heard anything from them recently?
