View Full Version : Nearly got a ride in the New Merc SLR ....

My girlfriends sister previously workd for the F1 team Tyrrol (spl?) that is now BAR (in the accounts departments :rolleyes: ). One of the pit mechanics she became friends with is now a test driver for McLaren and has been heavily involved in the development of the SLR.

They were supposed to be visiting us this weekend (in the SLR :eek: :smitten: ) but unfortunately they have had to cancel :cry:

I asked him if I could have a go but he replied "well unfortunately we can't come & visit so we'll never know" .........

Good looking cars but prefer the similar spec Porsche. There was one in a mag the other week and its brake discs were on fire almost. bright orange :eek: :eek:

Apparantly on Top Gear they WERE on fire on the SLR, but I missed it :(

Well, your car is one of the lucky ones!!

It now belongs to Newclearbomb (James) & he's turned it into a full on drift car!! A lucky escape as some of them have ended up cut into pieces.

Now worries guys, if/when he does come up in one, I'll give you a shout :D

apparently speaking to the bloke, they brakes are ceramic and cost £2500 per corner. They are of F1 origin. Like the F1 cars, they do glow bright red if you use them a lot ....... and as said by clarkson ..... "catch fire if you use them lots" :D

There was one ( some ? ) going round the track at MIRA last summer. even from a distance they sound pretty damn good :smitten:
