I wonder if its the roppy old Rolls Royce FAB1 or the new one for the forthcoming film?

And I'm not sure I'd like a car that costs £300 odd thousand pounds and the brakes catch fire.... :indiff:

I think the thing is amazing, decked out GT with supercar performance, and the sound its makes, big v8 rumble with the supercharger whistle :smitten: and the brakes! :notworthy

The hypnosis of Richard was hillarious too.... the little one driving round the studio in a pedal car Porsche.. brum brum :D

"And I'm not sure I'd like a car that costs £300 odd thousand pounds and the brakes catch fire.... "

Errr, do you know any other cars which would be able to only catch on fire a little after ten 100+ mph to 0 brake test's!! Read Top Gear mag for more details!

No, I don't actually. But that's not the point. If I was to spend £300,000 on a Mercedes road car, I would expect the brakes to not catch fire. I would have assumed any other cars brakes to have died a death on loads of stops from 100 to 0, long before they actually caught fire.

my balanced and well informed review.

Thunderbird review was quite funny, but went on for too long. and whats the point of reviewing a car that no one can ever own? and he didn't mention, that the bodywork is made out of paper mache, so you cannot drive it in the rain.

monster truck and the nun. not as entertaining as the old ladies doing donuts, but ok as a 5 minute filler.

not sure about the clarkson bit about buying a house for 50p oop nawf, so you could buy an alpha. surely you would be better off buying a garage to repair it in.

the merc was a very impressive car. pretty soon they should be testing the porsche against it (already done in the mag). air brake did look naff though. braking test was good though. and 3 seconds faster than anything else..... if merc hadn't insisted on all the extra weighty things, it would have been cheaper and faster. clarkson " this is better then their F1 car" ell it didn't breakdown all through the program.....

the hypnotism bit. must admit i pmsl. was it faked though? the only thing i do not understand, is how mr hammond could possible not laugh, during the time he was in the trance. however i have never been hipno'd and i don't know anyone who has. i can understand how he could possibly forget how to drive, but sitting in a kiddy car thinking it was a real porsche? interesting that they said he couldn't hypno clarkson. vacuum head?

and the bling thing. waste of 10 minutes of my life.

but at least we got two stiggy laps.

Makes my laugh that they have managed to make a front engined, Automatic car that beats the Lambo, Konigseggs etc by 2-3 secs - hahahaha.

So the fact they still worked isnt enough! Seen F1 cars brakes catch fire in the pits, its no big deal, they go out when you set off again, and still work!

Cant say that for steel brakes!

Wouldnt mind it being an auto, cause you can take it off and use those flappy things behind the steering wheel. Anyways, its a grand tourer, so it should have a atuo box (convienient as well, Mercedes cant make a manual box for toffee!)

I like the Hypnosis bit, not faked appently, he would have had to "act" so well to do that. A collegue here said it looked real too, and he has been hypnotised before.

thought the hypnotism bit was true when he was in the alfa but the pedal porsche was pushing it. - lets face it - if you were driving down the road and someone twatted your car you'd swear at him wouldn't you, even if it was jezza in a battery powered jeep. :wack:

I didn't see the big deal with the Audi - there's loads of cars that could easily manage 40mpg. The only reason it "impressively" got to Edinburgh and back is because it had a huge 20-gallon tank. That's 91 litres. IIRC an S14 is 65 litres?

ScoobyDoo

It was entertaining if nothing else

I wouldn't say it seats 5 comfortable any more than any other 4-seater.

Weight isn't an issue regarding MPG on a journey like that where 99% of the time is just crusing at a set speed - weight doesn't come into that, just aerodynamics and drag.

0-60 in 7, twintubby V8 - granted. But a lesser diesel engien would have managed 60mpg on the same journey.

Yak
31-05-2004, 09:59
Aye, but would have been as fun. The Audi is HUGE, not exactly a small car and as he said weight does come into hit as soon as you hit the hills of yorkshire and beond

I liked it as one thing clarksen had to realy concentrate on rather than just looning about the place. Must remember not to to leave the read window demister on all the time

Havnt you ever wonder how far you can get with the vapors in the tank? I remember once in my old strada driving around the lake district's coast road late in the evening thinking...."There gota be a petrol station along here thats open soon!". I was getting lower and lower to the bottom of the tank and ever where was shut. + I was driving in extra fuel economy mode as well. Finaly we stopped at a pub out side a shut pertol station and they gave us direction to s 24hours on in Borrow in fernes (spelling). I was totaly drained by the time we got there but the elation of makeing it and not running out gave me enough energy to drive all the way to a service station on the M6 before stopping for a snoose (was about 1am by thins point). The piece brought back memorys

BTW is it true about bleading the system on a diessel when you run out of fuel? If how would you do it?

Jon
31-05-2004, 10:16
I know older Citroens had a plunger type pump at the front of the engine, so you manually pump the new fuel from tank to engine, thus through the fuel pump. I think it was the fuel pump that couldn't self prime.

I'm surprised it's still the case on a modern diesel though.

seb
31-05-2004, 10:24
Havnt you ever wonder how far you can get with the vapors in the tank?

I never fill up until I really have to. It cutting out on even genle cornering is normally a good sign I've taken it too far ;)

I managed to put over 65 litres in my S14 once, and it was normally 64 or so :)

I remember being on holiday in France with my parents years ago in my dad's A6/S6 (not sure which it was at this time) and we drove a good 30 miles with it saying "0 miles" looking for a petrol station.

seb
31-05-2004, 10:27
BTW is it true about bleading the system on a diessel when you run out of fuel? If how would you do it?

Yes, the only time I ever ran out of fuel was in a diesel, which was very unfortunate since I only ever drove it a few times. Got a friend to bleed it through for me.
