View Full Version : ca18det powered toyota
I was seriously contemplating replacing the weak n/a 4age 1.6L motor in my ae86 corolla with a ca18det... the motors are strikingly similiar in appearance, size and layout... but, didn't I have a starion multiport conversion project (400hp) that'll need a home.
This guy was thinking the same thing, obviously.

Like they say, anything is possible with enough time and money....
I've seen a Mitsubishi colt with full Lancer evo6 running gear, a hyundai coupe with a turboed mitsubishi engine, skoda with lancia 2.0 twin cam, the list goes on....
At 2450 pound weight, a ca18det corolla should be quite a ride.
Yep, it does get time consuming, and could be expensive if you make poor choices. I looked at turbocharging the toyota motor... but it would actually be cheaper to swap in the ca18det, especially for me since I do my own work.... besides, the end result will always be a superior product.
Been thru that excercise a few years back, with a '81 corolla (that I still own, by the way)... Tried the dual sidedrafts, cam, nitros.. etc.. then found a starion 2.0 and swapped in everything - looks factory. Cost was less than the 3tc parts alone. Performance was in a different league! Although I haven't got a chance to modify it any, that old goat will outpull my ca18det s13, as a matter of fact.
