A unit opposite us sells those petrol scooter things and there are kids around here a lot. The units got a scrote estate round the corner and the scrote kids come to nosy at the scooters. They often nosy round all the units with the doors open including ours. We keep telling them to feck off but some day one of thems going to tell their brother/da/uncle.older mate etc and some feckers gonna drive a car through our door and nick a load of stock.

Does anyone know what sort of quality anti ram raid kit we need. I know theres a load of cheap junk about that would fall over if you looked at it hard but on the other hand I was quoted £750 + vat PER POST today and they reckon we need 4 of them!!!

Thats just a silly amount of money.

I think one of the long posts that run horizontally accross the face of the entrace would be better (and cheaper) but I dont knop where to start looking for them.

Anyone know anything about building security and could point us inthe right direction?

At the moment we are parking the Pug accross the roller shutter entrance and taking two of the wheels off each night!

sounds effective and free - i'd keep doing this :wack:

i'm sure i have memories of either you or ann asking this before and someone suggested a fcuking big barrier behind the shutters(ie not visible)

Behind the shutters is no good, theyll wreck the doors before they find out they cant get in. The idea is to put them off BEFORE doing huge damage ;)

Just sink a couple of RSG's into the ground a good few feet, easier to cut (just) but about as ram-raid proof as you get and cheap as chips

are you renting your unit bren? If you dont mind me asking that is

bren

They need to be removable to allow us to get cars in and out so it cant be something fixed. Which is a pity as that would save us a mint.

The units rented which is why Im loathed to spend £3k+ on security for it. Weve already spent £1500 on the alarm and window bars alone!

ah, so i take it its in the terms of your lease to do any necessary security improvements :(

Did your insurers make you fit the bars/alarm? Have you been surveyed yet?

I'd assume you have all of your stock/contents/business equipment/public liability etc all insured under a package policy with a given insurer (just looked for you on my system actually but you aint insured with us, dammit :p:D).

Usually (completely subject to sums insured and desirability of stock/equipment) insurers will come round and survey the premises for aspects such as physical security, arson risk, general housekeeping, electrics, H&S etc etc - to make sure its a good risk. For example, the chances of you suffering a theft/arson loss are pretty high if you've only got mickey mouse locks on the place :wack: :D

I was just wondering what the surveyor had suggested - but obviously if they havent been out yet (they may not even want a survey, like i say, case specific) it might be worth waiting before blowing all of your budget on security - as they may come round and ask for a better alarm system for example

I didnt realise shopping for barriers was so much fun :D

Delta high security barriers are all crash rated in widths up to 240 inches (6096 mm) and up to 38 inches high (965 mm). Lowered to allow passage of authorized vehicles, these Delta barriers are the first line of defense at critical facilities including embassies, nuclear facilities, military bases and corporate headquarters.

an audio company here in newcastle uses something similar to what you suggested Bren. Bascally, there is a 2 or 3 foot vertical retactable post to the ground in front of the shutter, then either side walls in the mortar, theres a open box section. A huge 4 or 5 inch square bar then runs horizantally across both box sections, and the centre part also lines up with the middle post. Its a bit of a hassle, but all you do is lift it off when youre open and place it down the side of the workshop or whatever. If you think this is a cheaper alternative, let me know, i will go and take some pics for you of all the parts and operation. Im sure they wont mind.

What about those little ramp things that stick out the ground at about 45 degrees and shred/wheels tryes if people drive over them?

wont work mate, a car hurtling toward them would still travel past them due to its mass and momentum. Plus, he still need them to lower them so cars can get in and out of the workshop, and i think those spike things are just manual and tilt is all.

Spot on.

Been thru exactly what arry says, get the ins co up get them to survey your place and get their 'free' advice, but remember the Fire Dept/ H & S might not see the improvements the same way. Arrgh! :annoyed:
