AON where the cheapest around for my Celica by a few hundred quid. I just called them to see how much it would cost to change the policy to a Nissan 200 and it will be a £5 admin fee only!!!

Their number is 01384 455011 if you want to give them a go.

Do they deal with modifications do you know?

You are not dumb, do you lie about being blond too? ;)

Jezz, not sure about the mods. They asked if the car I am interested in had any in a nonchalant manner so I get the feeling it isn't to much of a problem. They only require Cat2 imobiliser (don't know how that compares to other companies, it seems to me most want Cat1). I shall enquire if and when I come to change the policy.

Stawberry blonde actually ;)

Did the 200s come with alarms as standard?

S13's didn't.
Not sure about the S14's, perhaps a post in the tech section would help, not many people read the insurance stuff. Some S14's have NATS (Nissan anti theft systems perhaps?) but I'm not sure how good it is.

A good cat 1 alarm is about £260 fitted, well my Toad Ai606 was.

Jezz.

Its ok, I am seeing the car tomorrow. I am assuming that it will have an alarm on it for insurance purposes anyway. It is N reg so it should have.

Maybe you should wash your hair more often then :D

He wouldnt pull off that "hippie charm" so well if he did ;) :D
BTW - if you even mention in passing that your car is modified to an insurance agent, they will take it as final word. Wnakers

The S14 comes with a CAT 1 Alarm/Immobiliser as standard. :)

Thanks Bean, that is handy to know. The Cat2 imobiliser I have on the Celica is a pain in the ar5e. It never pays to go for second best does it.

Catherine, I think all immobilisers that are Thatcham accredited are Cat 2. I think Cat 1 merely means the system also has an alarm linked to the immobiliser, and could still be the same immobiliser.

Don't mistake Cat 2 as second best because I think its the only catergory. My Vecta is Cat 2.

Hope that helps.

Scottie, thanks. I didn't do any homework on alarms or imobilsers before I had the one on the Celica fitted. Insurance man said I had to have it, dealer said he could fit it. The trouble is the one I got is annoying because you have to stick a keyfob implement into a flashing hole on the dash, usually in the dark. I assumed all imobilisers/alarms could be de-activated when you press a button on the key, but I was wrong!

Hopefully the standard Nissan alarm/imobilser has the button on the key?

Yes, standard Nissan S14 one had a key fob with an on & off button.

My first 200sx (S13) had an immobiliser fitted by the garage and it was a right pain in the arse.

I had to stick a jack plug thingy in the hole before the car would start!

It's hard to stick your thing in a hole in the dark ;) :D

Thats the one Bean, and of course they put it in the darkest place right of the steering wheel so no light ever shines on it!! Another reason to swap it in for a Nissan 200 :D

Exactly the same place as mine was!

The other thing was as soon as I bought the car I found it also had an alarm with built in immobiliser.

I could have saved myself £200, oh well, **** happens :)

Not sure about mods to be honest. Cheapest quote I've had though. Just got them down to £990.00 for this year! :)
