View Full Version : Dodgy Insurance ???

Thought I'd get this one off my chest, see if anyone's got any ideas.

Find out yesterday, my insurance company hasn't been taking any money out of my account for 6 months. Hmm, bad news eh ?
They assure me I was covered, despite my suggestions to the contrary. Something along the lines of "you had a certificate sir".. "All very well and good if I get pulled over for a dodgy headlight and get a producer, not so useful if I mow down someone crossing the road, and your company looks for any excuse it can to refuse cover !"
Now they want me to pay double for the next 6 months. I was trying to argue my insurance for the last 6 months wasn't worth the paper it was written on and I didn't see why I should have to pay for it.

Am I just being an arsey git, or does anyone think I've got a a point ?

Is there anything I can do about it ? I can't cancel and re-instate because (a) I'd loose atleast 6 months no claims, and (b) they'd probably tell me my account with them is 6 months in debit.

I think it's the Insurance Ombudsman you want to speak to?

I believe someone mentioned them a while back.

Insurance Ombudsman: http://www.theiob.org.uk/index.html

Or your Insurance company may be a member of:
General Insurance Standards Council: http://www.gisc.co.uk/Home/

Hope this helps,

Yes, you would have been covered. (speaking as ex motor insurance claims handler).

You entered into an agreement with them - and the fact they're saying now that you were covered proves they know that they made a slip up in not taking your money.

So, nothing to worry about there then.
