View Full Version : Hit by a bike!
Was driving round by mine last nigth, and I stopped to chat to some friends.
Cars parked both sides of the road, checks my mirror and stops in
the road. Starts sending the window down to say hi, and I can
hear a motorbike giving it beans up the street. Looks in my
mirror, and thought "hes going a bit quick" Next thing I can
hear locking brakes, look in the mirror, and this bike is nearly
on me!!!! I threw the car in to first gear, just as he was dropping
the bike (front wheel went from under him) and tried to move, next
thing CRUNCH!!!
First thing is check he was OK, his bike was knackered, smashed furring, twisted forks
buckled wheel, and he had grazed his leg. One of the people I had stopped for used to
go to school with him, and let him put the bike on his drive.
The Bikes GF then arrives - who lives down the road, he then went back to her house -
but never came back!!!!
Think I have the reg of the bike (can prolly confirm this later), but where do I stand
with regards to fixing my car
Thankfully though, Im OK, as was he (apart from the leg), and I guess it was a good job I
threw the car in to gear and managed to move about 1 1/2 car lengths before he hit me
and that I was moving away when he did hit me, rather than hit a stationary car.
I also have 3 witnesses who where stood about 2 meters away when it happened.

Glad everyone is ok.
It should be that he hit you from behind so its his fault.
Certainly it was the twats fault :whip:
.....but where do I go from here
I thought he was gonna come back last night with some details, but after waiting for 20 mins there was no sign?
Like i say, I "think" I have the reg, and I can get his name :)
If you have his name and address you can either approach him yourself, or inform your insurance company and let them do what they get paid for. Otherwise you need to go to the police.
I would advise that you at least report it to the police anyway
Are you 100% sure he wasn't injured?
I wouldn't want any comeback at a later date
Well, he had hurt his leg - not sure how badly though, he did kinda hobble off.
I stopped, and had time to drop the car window before realising he was about to hit me, and on the Beemer, the windows take about 4 secs to drop, plenty of time to realise I had stopped! He came up the road going through the gears like f**k, maybe mid 3rd gear - god knows how quick that is on a 600 Ninja
Damage to my car is a badly scratched bumper, smashed tail light, and badly dented rear valance :(
Thank fook I wasnt in the 200 :)
Any injury no matter how slight, you must report the accident to the police immediatly or at least within 24 hours..
Yeah I'd definately go to the police right now or as soon as conveniently possible  That way you can also get a crime reference number etc for insurance purposes, which always helps.
and at least you had witnesses too
But sorry to hear about it though -what a pisser :indiff:

he hit you from behind - so his fault... he left the scene of the accident - a Very naughty boy!!!
Id report it to the police... and as he buggered off... they will track him and sort it all out for you... :)
oh... and im glad that all the innocent parties are ok ;)
"Stuy gets done up the arse by one legged biker shocker!"
Mr McMaster later said "I could when tell he was coming by the noise he was making - although I tried to escape I couldnt avoid the powerful final impact. My rear end will never be the same again" :wack:
Glad you are OK mate

You write for the SUN, don't you ? :)
So let me get this straight, you parked in the middle of the road to chat to someone at the side? I :censored: hate it when people do that.
He left the scene of an accident, get straight onto the police.
You havent got a stiff neck have you?

Bwhahaha, recon the Sport is more likely - eh Doc ;)
Seb,
It was 11pm last night and it was a quiet little side road, and when I checked my mirror to stop, there was nothing behind me and he had pulled out from the side of the road leaving his GF's :(

I guess StuyMac was thoughtful enough to pull to the side of the road in a safe place ...
Well I hope he did
No, I have to admit I did stop in the middle of the road, but when I checked to stop, there was NOTHING behind me (its a long straight road). When I realised he wasnt gonna stop I did try and get out the way, but he was going wayyyy to quick (how fast are these bikes doing at the top of 2nd gear???) for the 30 limit. It was 11pm, quiet, I had my lights on, and my brake lights where also on.

IIRC about 90 mph on Kwack 636. Its fooking scary when it gets there two up in about 200m as well

Well you were still in the right, if a little incodsiderate to other traffic, but as you say, you were watching your mirror and reacted, and he was doing way over 30 ...
Right, went round on Saturday, and knocked.
His mum answered the door, and seemed a little shocked when I introduced myself.
He was out at his GF's celerbrating his Birthday! I asked for his number so I could get in touch, but she wasnt happy about that and took mine, with us both agreeing for him to call on the sunday. I requested to also see the bike, and check the reg, she was very reluctant, but eventually let me through.
11:30am Sunday he called! :) TBH he was very helpful, and nice about it. He did ask if my car was red  Apparently he found some red paint on his bike, guess the shock must have caused this.
Theres a good chunk of paint missing from my bent towing eye, so I guess that must be where its from, he also mentioned that the front forks have been pushed back by about 2 inches!!!!
Conversation basically ended with him asking me to get a few quotes for the damage, giving him a ring, showing them to him, and him writing me a cheque out to cover the damage :)
Gonna get a few quotes this week - had a spare light cluster, so not really bothered about that, but will price up a new bumper - fitted and painted, a new real valance - cut old one out, refit and paint new one, and a new back box, as Ive noticed this to be bent under the car a little, and has a blow at the join where the pipes meet the box (this is only 6 months old, so its not old age thats caused it)
Recon theres a few hundred quids damage, as the back boxes alone are about £180

Sounds like a rare walk in the park ;) hope it continues to work out like that! :notworthy
TBH I dont think he was insured - it was his 20th birthday on sat, and it was a 53 plate Ninja 600
He now knows, I know where he lives, and the reg of his bike, so Im guessing he knows its easier to do it this way than for me to go to the police and do it that way.
Nice one
Wish all accidents were as straight forward as that.

I'd buy him dinner and a pint and thank him for his maturity. it should be cultivated.

I had a similar issue on a recent accident, I wrote down one reg number and the witness wrote another down, one digit out :( Thankfully I got in touch with a solicitor who has the Insurance database on her computer. I was able to explain everything else to her, and she was able to check both numbers and it turned out one of them was correct. And was able to tell me that the bloke was insured, phewwwwww
Not all solicitors have access to this program, but ask about, worth doing mate.

Only if the guy coughs up

Maybe he meant 'cos it was his birthday ;)

Personaly I don't believe in insurance, but in this land 'o litigation I see the necessity. Regardless of the lack of insurance, the fact that the kid called back and expressed his remorse by willing to pay for damages is something I'm impressed by. Alot of kids run from their problems.

Stuy, My mate has a tourer if you need some bits. The rear bumper is fine, and its Red too. Think it'll be too big to post though :(
