"Hi, I have a couple of questions about my policy as I want to make a change to the car and need to know if it will affect my premium"
"OK, can you give me the details?"
"The intercooler has cracked and I've been quoted £900 by Nissan for a replacement but I can't afford that at the moment and the cars off the road till I can fix it. I have found a few other companies who can supply an intercooler but it will not fit in the same place as the original."
"So the car has an intercooler as standard ?"
"Yes, its mounted in the front wing of the car but all the non Nissan replacements I can get are mounted behind the front bumper"
"I see, I'll have to contact your underwriters about this change. Can you tell me what the intercooler does? "
"It's like a radiator but for air, when the air comes out of the turbo it's very hot so you need to cool it before it goes into the engine. It therefore goes through the intercooler which cools it down."
"OK, please hold"

"But I am fitting a replacement in a different place so I thought it would
be a modification"
"They don't think so."
"Well can I have it recorded on my file to say that it's been cleared with them."
"But it doesn't need to be"
"Would you do it anyway, just in case I need to make a claim and it's brought up"
"OK no problem I'll make a note under modifications."
"Thanks for your help"
