Jester

:o :censored: :o :censored:

that probably says it all...

but i had now had 2 producers in 4 days.... see my other thread to see why the other was...

2nite i got pulled in nearly exactly the same place but two actually really nice cops.

i had all my documents bar my counterpart for driving License but they still gave me another HO/RT2 (producers) and they did a person check on me to make sure i had no warrants! haha.

they then asked me loads of questions and were particually interested in my snooper! hmmm i told them that i read in the states they use radar to slow traffic near accident sites (ie point them at on coming traffic as loads of cars in the states have them, so they slow down thinking its speed trap)
they accept this and just kept trying to nit pic.

What do i do? i am getting fed up of being stopped! help

Seriously, I haven't been stopped in coming up to 2 years of owning this car, and I don't drive like a saint, my front numberplate is blatantly illegal, and my exhaust isn't the quietest either - I think I've got stealth paint :D

I used to get stopped all the time in my last car (a red Pug 205 1.9 GTi) - and that was completely standard!

You cant. Ha Ha get used to it. I would of given you the time of day. But now you have used the P word, I can sense your attitude and see why your cards are marked. Oh and you get given a HO/RT 1.

SM

I think if your extra careful for a month or so, trying not to make too much noise is residential area's and making your DV pop then they will slowly "forget" you. If you really were being "Harrassed" then it wouldnt be producers they were giving you, they would have found something to give you a fixed penalty for...
And snoopers arent illegal, you dont have to justify it, its a upcoming traffic light detector/ pedestrian crossing detector for when you in a unknown town and need to slow from 30mph to 20mph.

Maybe but i doubt it. Do you think the Cheif constable is going to bother his arse to tell every police officer to leave Mr Jester alone, Who calls police officers PIG'S. Attitudes breed attitudes. Anyway thats not harassment. Drive a look at me car and the police will look at you (Very closely)

Attitudes breed attitudes.
Has to be said that that could equally apply to the way the police treat the general public.

I was stopped once at 2 in the morning for doing 30 in a 30 limit because that was suspicious. I was in my company Merc, dressed in a suit on my way to the airport, so not some BBCd up twat in a Corsa. But I was spoken to very rudely by an office much younger than myself who appeared to think it was acceptable to call a law abiding member of the public mate. The fact that I was stopped is not an issue (in fact I think there should be more random inspections at times when there are likely to be more drunks on the road), the attitude was though.

It cuts both ways Rusty. I can see why you wouldn't like being called a 'pig' but I don't appreciate being treated like scum by the police either.

The reason police officers call you mate is to keep it informal and not to give the impression that they are better than you. Equals and all that. But you do get T :censored: TS that cant take it for what it is. Probably because they are p :censored: ed off at being pulled. Then i have to change to calling people sir. When people call people "SIR" it means, Lick my arse you piece of :censored:.
All because i want a word with the driver about a brake light or something, So i keep it informal and say "MATE" :D

If you want people to respect the police then the police has to show respect to the general public, most of whom are guilty of no crime whatsoever. Some of your comments do in fact go some way to confirming the attitude that an increasing number of people feel about what the police think of the public.

You do a job I couldn't possibly do (or want to do), dealing with some truly appaling things in the line of duty, but at the end you are public servants and must act accordingly unless given fair reason not to.

Next time I get called 'sir' by a polliceman, I shall remember your words, and treat that policeman accordingly.

when I'm at the police station I prefer to keep it formal cos I find that the police offciers are lest trustworthy when they try to be matey. Just my bad experience of birkenhead police officers that makes me cynical I suppose. Everybody given power and authority abuses it t ana extent and I suppose the police are no different but its just more annoying when they do cos of the unifrom and what it stands for

I would expect a police officer to call me sir, no matter what, whether I stopped and asked him for the time, or if he was pulling me for something.

As you said, attitude breeds attitudes - would you expect a 'punter' to call you 'mate' or officer?

Johnny

So the question begs ... what should a police officer call you ...... Ok for men you cant go wrong with Mister ..... I dont think anyone could get offended at that term.

But what to call a woman .... Miss, Mrs, Ms, Lady, you, bitch ......... Someone is always going to be offended :wack: ... its rediculous what this world has come to that people are offended by being called Sir or Mate :wack: . of course they could not call you anything and just say "would you mind getting out the car" ....... then of course you would have the clan that would go around saying " ... peh, you are my public servant, one must address me in a proper mannor befitting to me being above you" :wack:

Feck me .... I cant wait till the revolution comes, Southpark becomes law and we can rid the world of this over the top PC bolox

I mean so far we have JB who is offended by mate, Jonboy who wants to be called sir, People that dont like being called sir.

It seams to me that it isnt so much the police attitute that needs to change but the pettiness of the general public.

I am not going to get drawn into an arguement. I did not say when police officers call you sir, I said when people call people sir. I know this from spending 7 years in the army. But after all police officers are people.
When im talking to somebody i preferer to be called mate or the such like as im a person with a job and we are both equal humans. I would never make anybody call me officer or sir as that would be me implying that im better because of my job. I would never call a persistant criminal scum and i do not like being called pig.

Ma'am for the women, I think ;)

I wouldn't be offended, but I would expect to be called Sir. Like you said, public servants and all that.. If someone shows you respect, then you are likely to respect them back. It's the same in business - if you are meeting someone that you don't know, you don't call them 'mate' - it gives the wrong impression...

If people had more respect for each other, and each others property, our country wouldn't be such a mess...

As for political correctness - it's a load of shite. I think that the police should be able to give the gobby little shits a clip round the ear, that way they might not grow up to be such tossers...

Massively Off Topic but I thought I'd ask anyway...

Rusty - When you pull someone in a car over - what do you call their transportation? I've only been pulled a few times (and have had no trouble) but they always asked "Is this your vehicle sir?" I was just wondering if you had to do that/if there was some sort of advanced police linguistic training?? ;)

Ohh and in a previous job I was berated by a well to do woman after calling her 'Madam': "I don't like the connitations young man..."

I work with a variety of ex forces dis and government trained personnel in the private sector. I have also been in northwood training as ftrs. The only reason why one would be polite in that context is to recognise the rank that that person's badge represents. Sometimes... I have genuinely found that some people have warranted respect by calling them Sir. I have no problem recognising a superior. I have been raised to be polite and acknowledge strangers who are my elder or unknown quantity politely, and diplomatically. I dont care if this is considered "olde worlde" manners or not.

I will never do that to the Police, since I find that the vast majority I have had the misfortune to deal with, both on terms of using them as the tools they are for whatever purpose I required (e.g. to report people crashing in to me, or to report other crimes) they have been incompetent, surly, inadequately trained in their own procedures as well as rude, arsy and most irritating of all - arrogant.

Unfortunately, I dont feel you are taking a diplomatic tack here to warrant a re-appraisal in many people eyes here.

A bit of humility in dealing with people's obvious concerns about the police, and their procedures wouldnt go amiss as a starting point to build bridges here. If you dont recognise this, then I am afraid you wont go far in that service. There is also always someone harder, smarter and better than yourself in life too, so be careful if you insist on not keeping your eyes open.

I know the Plod face a terrible and sometimes thankless task, and you are inhibited in many instances from carrying out what any definition of "justice" (like the grundnorm of jurisprudence) should or ought to be, by lack of resources, and incompetent training and / or megalomaniac feelings because you are in a position of power, as well as Englands awful legal system. However I am afraid your job is going to get worse, and you will end up hating civvies and your job, unless you change your perspective. Not ideal, since this job exists because of your punters you serve.

I hope you find the strength to work with us, as well as for us. I dont reckon being defensive about yourself or building an aggressive wall will work for you, or your job, or the community in general.

Just my tuppence worth here - I hope I was even handed in this - I find your point of view interesting Rusty, and I hope you take my thoughts on this in good heart.

Johnny
13-05-2004, 15:13
Just my tuppence worth here - I hope I was even handed in this

Interesting even handed-ness.

You pointed out quite clearly that your servants should have respect for you, as there are people harder smarter and better than them.

However you failed to even once mention having respect for the police (your servants) for trying to uphold the law, to some snotty little brat who whimpers when he gets told off, becuae its soooo unfair

Mutual respect is what is needed, not the attitude that you can treat them like sh1t because they are your servants, but they have to be polite to you.

Again, I think the problem is 50/50, you are not going to make the police respect you when you have that attitude .. would you respect your boss at work if he had the same attitude as you ...... You can call me sir because you work for me and Iam better than you ........... Nah .. you'd tell him to spin on it.

13-05-2004, 15:28
clearly i find it difficult typing out a synopsis of all the variables here.

Basically I dont think his attitude would help is all. I am trying to say that there needs to be rapprochement on both sides - and I do recognise that some of that effort has to come from the public - but ALSO from the plod.

I have had to call people Sir whom I dont think merited the term of deference. But then that is because one must act professionally and not descend to the level of the pond life you are dealing with.

Unfortunately there are people harder smarter and better in all walks of life, in every situation - I am not singling out the police for this is all - I mean that one should respect everyone on their own merits, until proven otherwise.

Im not sure servants come into this Johnny, when I was an expat in Brazil and elsewhere overseas they were always called house staff anyway..... :wack: ;)

but with all the highteckedness at their disposal, mr policeman knows your name, address, inside leg, national insurance number etc when he pulls you.

ffs the computer in his car tells him you have no tax before he can even see the windscreen

therefor he can stop you and say

good evening/morning/afternoon Mr JB, are you on the way to your bridge club?

now all we need is a hacker to get into the PNC and change our details to match our board names

Especially if there is a centralised database or systems for the "id card" requirements...

Then it will be "Mr/Mrs JB - we have stopped you because your subscription to Naked Women on Mercedes monthly has expired... Would you like to learn more?"

Rather than actually upholding an ACTUAL traffic offence... So if anyone wants.. I will be happy to offer some of my colleagues help in circumventing their details held in any database.....

This is what I thought ...... but I was pulled over the other day ... apparently a routine check, and they checked the tax disk and the tires .. and the tyres and the tires (I think they had trouble beleiveing that brand new proxies come with 2345234234 mm of tread :D ), checked my licence and let me go ?

Do all police cars have a tax / dvla computer thingymagig ?

alexjj
13-05-2004, 16:15
Some patrol cars are fitted with the police system, and some smaller older patrol cars just call in your details to their call centre and the call handler does the checking for them.

Either way, the Police shouldnt bother you if there isnt anything wrong. If you do genuinely feel aggrieved, then contact your MP with the details, since they do more for you than the PCA, who will basically hand it back to the superior officer of the plod in question, and therefore f all will get done.

Politics=power unfortunately in the uniformed forces, as well as the Justice system.

Well in my 10 years of driving (8 in modified cars) i have never been pulled in Essex so have no complaints about the old bill :D

I was pulled by some coppers in a layby doing spot checks in Yarmouth in my Orion. The one in charge was all 'i'm better than you' as he measured the thickness of the letters on my plate and informed me they was 1mm too thin  and that if he had a light meter my windows would be illegal, tried telling him there was no law covering the rear windows but he wasnt having it :D

Ive heard loads of people moaning about Essex traffic div but have nothing to complain about really, if your number plates are illegal you cant really moan if you get pulled, yes i agree its not a major crime but you are still attracting unwanted attention. if you dont want to get pulled by a Mazda 626 in silver and enjoy the rest of your bored little life :D

Either way, the Police shouldnt bother you if there isnt anything wrong.

It did its job though .. a few weeks before I was running aound on illigal tyres ... it was dry so I figured it cant be that dangerous.

Had they stopped me 2 weeks before I would have had a £1000 fine  .... damn it next time I am sorting my tyres out BEFORE they go ilegal

I can't say I've ever had a problem with traffic police. I was stopped a couple of times when I first passed my test, once for appearing too young (fair enough - when I was 17 I looked 12) and once for "appearing to go too fast" (which I was) and on both occasions I deserved to be stopped. Since then not a sniff. Can't see what all the fuss is about.

And to be honest, if I'm going to be done I'd rather it was face to face with plod than an anonymous speed camera hidden behind a tree.

yeah mate but the point is the cops are nobs i wasnt doing anything wrong.

Also, i did get a fixed penalty i got 30 quid for having a non vertical number plate
So you were doing something wrong, you were driving round with a non-legal numberplate.....

Hardly surprising you got stopped then

My frotn one isn't exactly legal either, and though I don't believe it warrants any police action it is nevertheless not legal therefore I wouldn't be complaining at being pulled over for it.

Well that'll be why they pulled you.

You have to expect if theres something OBVIOUSLY amiss with your car then you will get pulled.

Play the grey man, theres no point in drawing attention to yourself when youve already got a quick car, thats just asking for it :smash:

Stealth m8... if you insist on a loud paint job or loud furniture on your car (big wings etc etc) then at least make sure that your documents/ tyres / bulbs / licence plates are all in order..

I believe the expression is if you talk the talk, then you have to walk the walk!

Maybe but i doubt it. Do you think the Cheif constable is going to bother his arse to tell every police officer to leave Mr Jester alone, Who calls police officers PIG'S. Attitudes breed attitudes. Anyway thats not harassment. Drive a look at me car and the police will look at you (Very closely)

i call them pigs on here czo they :censored: me off.

In real life i am very polite and well mannered, i dont give them any gip or anything just do what they say.

i vent after they have gone!

But we all have to accept that there are police officers who use these boards and they, like any other group of people here deserve to be able to use the boards without feeling insulted. Calling them pigs etc is not a very nice term and though I am sure you do not mean it personally at Rustyveedub it's bound to cause offence.

On that note, I think just about every angle has been covered in this thread, so it's time to draw it to a close :)
