...changing the pads on my mums Saab with my dad.. Hanyes manual reads "push piston back into caliper"...

15 mins laters, several hammer whacks and various pushing rods it finally goes in!! :wack: :wack:

Good old haynes... :thumbs:

As much as I hate to appear to side with Haynes, the caliper pistons should push (or twist) into the caliper quite easily.
If it was difficult, there is likely to have been rust on the piston. You have hammered the rust past the seals.
Hope I'm wrong, but would expect it to leak now.

have you removed the top from the brake fluid reservoir, ?

There doesn't appear to be any leaking and the brakes are working fine so it all appears to be good. :)
