bad cops, bad cops... bad cops, bad cops..... [\simpsons voice off]

Whats the story with cops that follow you untill you park up outside your house? This happened to me last night but has happened before. I stopped the car, got out and started to walk towards the cop van with a face like a serial killer on me to find out what the story was and they turned round quick sharp and buggered off.

I assume its something to do with checking the reg place to where you live or something?

I got followed once by a jammer, and when I got home parked the car in the drive they got out and asked "Is this your car sir" to which I said "no Ive stollen it and parked in some random drive way" I got a producer for that."Spot check" :smash:

If someone had stolen your car, you would hope the police would stop them right. They are only doing their job, some police can be arrogant, but certainly not all of them.

The police are there to do a job, let them do it without slagging them off

Two things:

1) Can't you say (when you've parked up on your drive): F*ck off, I'm on private land?

2) Don't say anything, unlock your front door, walk in and shut it behind you. They can ring the bell all night but you are NOT obligated to answer it.

Fair enough, but all they had to do was type my reg into their computer and it would have told them my address. They followed me for nearly 8 miles, and no I wasnt breaking the law.Young lad nice car. :annoyed:

Fair enough, but we don't all want a police escort all the way our your doorways. People tend to panic and make mistakes when there's a police car following them for ages.
Police should stop someone immidiately after they've checked the registration plate if they are unsure of the car, not tail them for quarter of an hour.

If you read my original post you'll see that I was asking why they do this - a genuine question with no slagging. The bad cops bit was just a joke because this episode of the simpsons (with the cop tune) cracks me up. Also she was driving dangerously close to the back of my car but admittedly I didn't explain this, I was going to comment about this when I spoke to them but they saw me and then sped off.

By all means I much rather they did this than sit on the motorway with a speed gun.

Not too sure if this question was intended for me but they stopped outside my house and when they saw me getting out of my car and approaching them they spun the car round and left, pretty rude especailly since I had a question to ask of them (even if it was "where did you learn to drive") [joke].

Not really worth the effort, just adds to my already poor opinion really. Despite this incident being small and unimportant.

Please no more witch-hunt posts please folks, I was really just wondering what they were doing when this happens?

That I don't know any decent copper would have pulled you over and spoke to you, if they were suspicious. They were obviously bored or something, not very nice really.

The police were toying with you, if they follow you up your arse for ages they know you're likely to try and get away.

I've done it before and I was lucky to get away with a warning, but I thought the psycho behind me was trying to run me off the road or something, following so close his headlights occasionally dipped below my mirror view, in the pouring rain, at 60mph. So I sped up, they followed for another 10 minutes, pulled me later and told me "they were expecting me to go off the road" (so why didn't they pull me earlier).

There are some good, community service minded cops, but there are also the cops that are out to get their targets. Because I drive a drug dealer-esque beemer I get randomly stopped late at night quite frequently.

They follow you until you do something wrong, then pick you up on it. Personally I tend to drive like crap when I've got a police car 1 foot from my bumper, I worry about driving 100% legally and watch my mirror too much.

dunc

Sounds like its best just to pull over and see if they stop too. You don't have to explain why you pull over to stop driving.

I have this occasionally when I'm driving back from town in the wee small hours. I've managed to do two and a half laps of the Redditch ringroad in the past before they got bored and started tailing someone else. I waved as they went past.

I assumed that after that they'd stop me and go over the car with a fine toothcomb but the lass driving just waved back

Why not just drive round and round the block? :D they will soon get bored :D

I never change my driving style if I'm being followed (might slow down a bit though:D). I'm a reasonable driver and if they have a problem they can stop me  I have no problem with being stopped. I just have a problem with being stopped then patronised by an obnoxious ***** :wack:

Thge police by and large are okay, if your driving or doing something illegal you can expect it to come as no surprise they will pull and do you.

But, if your minding your own business and your Legal ( or to the best of your ability and knowledge) they follow you, simlply stop at a safe place,(lay-by, garage forcourt, etc), if they question you answer there questions with civility and respect, then your off on your merry way.

If your are stopped they have to give a reason, wither it is feable or not, take a deep breath, note there shoulder no's, if you are repeatadly stopped eg 3/4 times per week, every week, over 1 month ( it does happen), make an appiontment with a senoir officer, give the shoulder no's, let him deal with it.

They have a sometimes difficult job to do, Stay on the right side of the law, help them, but should they step out of line, exercise your rights.

To Cautiously
To Aggresive
They think you have been drinking

I think its disgusting that there are police patrols on the beat, following people that might be up to something they shouldnt or driving through towns.

Its just wrong and so against our basic human rights.

If we are going to have police walking and driving around then they should be blindfolded so they cannot lok at you in a way that you might take offence at.

After all we now live in an age where its no longer a crime to break the law, but a crime to upset people :wack:

I think its good you were followed. ... You did nothing wrong, and they didnt pull you for it ... its nice to see the police are actually out there with a presence and looking for crime .. even if they are looking for it in a 30mph car late at night

Love this idea

My fav thing about roundabouts is that they carry the same speed limit as the road they are on so doing 60/70mph on them is perfectly legal. Can't wait to try Grim's roundabout idea next time I get followed.

Johnny if that question was aimed at me then it was at rush hour (or there abouts 6/7pm) and I was a bit peaved off at how they drove away when I approached to question them (would this not be considered evading justice or evading arrest if it were them approaching me?)

Active police presence is great, as long as the police play it by the rules too.

I've been stopped once by a nice, honest bloke who said "well you were doing a bit over 30, it's raining, and there are drunks about" which is fair enough.

Then there was the time they followed 1 inch from my bumper on a country road, baiting me basically.

The other time was an off duty officer who pulled up beside me at a petrol station after following me IN TRAFFIC, driving WITH TRAFFIC, at the SAME SPEED AS TRAFFIC, then gave me a hard time "who do you think you are, stirling moss?", went over the car with a fine tooth comb, etc. Note that he was driving along behind me at the same speed, in the same conditions with his kids in the car. He just didn't take a liking to my combination of 17s and 15s at the time (was a quick fix while I got new tyres), didn't like me heel and toeing when braking, and didn't like the music I was listening to.

There's the good and the bad, but unfortunately the bad tarnish the good, but I must admit it did put a smile on my face when the friendly officer stopped me. See, when someone stops me, checks a few things, is nice, and is basically looking out for the community, for you, for me, that's BRILLIANT. I want more of it. When they're out 'to get you', to give you a hard time and generally be miserable, that's not good.

yeah what's that all about, they're all like that round here

Had a chat to an older copper outside a club on saturday and complained at the way a young copper had come into the carpark responding to a fight that had stopped 5 minutes before and there were already 7 vehicles there. He grounded out the front bumper and everyone started laughing at him :D Seriously though he entered a very small carpark at around 30 and there were a LOT of people around, twat. The older copper agreed with me, young police have a serious attitude problem and are always trying to prove a point

heh, one that amused me most was not car related at all, was sat in the Local one Friday night, reasonably busy but not extremly so, quite a nice buzz of chatter going round when suddenly around a dozen or so fully riot gear clad coppers burst through the door, shouting "No one move" and things, they said to the somewhat bemused Landlord, "Where's the trouble?", he asked "What trouble?", copper said "This is the Oak Tree?", Land Lord replyed with a big grin, "No Mate, thats half a mile up the road", que the entire pub cracking up laughing, most of the coppers pissing themselves as well, and the one who'd led em in just running out with his head down.

The police in general do deserve the bad press they get including my recent experience with the help line where the lady was less than helpfull and in some repsects even slightly threatening and my girlfriend got a lift with a policeman (off duty) and his girlfriend ( a friend of hers) and he was doing over 75 in a thirty zone, over took a marked car who blipped their blues at him and let him on his way
