has anybody had any trouble with the exhaust manifolds and gaskets for the s13? I bought my 92 S13 a month back and its just started blowing in the engine bay. Nissan told me to expect to pay up to £700. Suspecting it's just a gasket, I told them to shove it and am now taking it to my trusty backstreet Phil Mitchell mechanic. You guys had any similar experiences?

Yup, not long after getting mine, the gaskets round the turbo went. Dont know why Nissan have quoted that much though, I paid about £50-£60 for a full set of gaskets (all turbo gaskets and manafold gaskets), and £120 from a local garage to get them fitted you will probable be relived to hear http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

When I bought my car I found a receit for said work about £150,but when I had the engine out all the bolts that are 'round the Back' were loose.I can see their real buggers to get to so if your up to it I would suggest taking the head off and doing it on a bench.

its actually not that bad if you put the studs at the back in first. ie. wind the stud into the head and line the manifold up onto it. It is impossible to do with the manifold on, as it goes in at a funny angle. Quite easy with a mate to help.

All mine were loose when i got mine, and the turbo bolts have come loose again this weekend, despite all being re-tapped and bollocked down just 3/4 weeks ago.

I've had to replace the manifold to turbo gasket on 2 of the S13s I've owned. Fairly easy to do - time consuming though. You can leave all the studs in the head and just remove the manifold and turbo in one bit.

Gaskets from Nissan are about £60 with nuts and locking plates - I expect you can get them cheaper else where though.

yeah, had the same problem after I let Nissan loose at my car. this was when I first got it. Luckily the work was covered under wrnty. But they failed 3 times. They kept on asking me each time for proof of service (of course I removed the bleed valve eachtime I took it in so it looked standard) .

They even called me up asking for me to send through proof the car had been serviced. I told them whats that got to do with their dodgy parts. sod off. They then threatened me with letter to say I had to pay even though it was under wrnty.

I literally told em to get lost. I aint paying a penny

Since then I aint heard nothing.

Dodgy aprentice mechanics if u ask me.

I would have gotten someone else to do it had it not been for the warrantee.

Milkem for what they got if u ask me.

I even scanked a new turbo out of them as they thought it was the turbo at fault.

dyam fools! I aint ever letting my local Nissan place touch my car.

I'd rather have a back street mechanic look at it first after the experience I've had with em

My first one ('91 S13) started blowing about two days after I bought it.

I went to the dealer who quoted '£300 but might be £150'. Which meant 300.

I asked my (trusted) friend to do it at his garage and he did a top job for £72.00 inc.

Nissan main dealers are w*****s!

A couple of weeks ago my current 200 started blowing and, I was suprised to learn, the manifold bolts had come loose!

If I'd given that to Nissan to do I think I may have to have parted with a couple of my major organs....
