Hey Peeps!

I've just bought an S15 and am wondering if anyone can post the manual on this site or email me one at alex.teow@client.stalimited.com as i can't seem to click on the link in another thread! It would be greatly appreciated! Cheers! :notworthy

Am still in shock over my purchase...was looking for an S14a due to its cheaper price but unfortunately (well, fortunately apart from the diminishing wallet!!) came across the S15 and just 'HAD' to get it........ And to add insult to my injured wallet, i happened to 'come' across Bren's advertising of the damn AVC-Rs and just 'HAD' to purchase them too! And i still haven't owned the car for a week yet! Holy S$&%!!!!! :annoyed:

Btw, this is gonna be a stupid question seeing that i have already purchased the AVC-R but ermmm, i'm a self-confessed non-technical person and so wouldn't have a clue as to how to fit the thingy. Is it pretty easy to do and should i even attempt it or should i get it fixed by a 'pro' and how much would that cost? I kept saying that i wasn't gonna touch the car after i bought it for at least 6 months but......

And after reading the forum, its seems that the next thing that needs to be done is the exhaust system and airfilter. Any recommendations - price versus performance?? As in not too expensive but still very good performance (if that's possible??) I know that the Mongoose systems seems to be the cheapest...but in ur opinions, is it better to pay more for a better system? I dun want a really loud one....but obviously not something too quiet too.

Alright, i'll shut up now, think i've overdone the questions and answers thingy already......Sorry folks but any help would be greatly appreciated!!! :Plug:

Cheers,

Firstly - welcome to the world of S15's! :)
Secondly - I have the complete workshop manual on CD - got it off ebay for £6. Worth doing as then you have got all 1500+ pages readily available. I tend to take it with me to get the car serviced/tuned/aligned etc so well worth the hassle of getting it.
Thirdly - Spec S or Spec R. Aero or non? What year? Colour? Detail man...details!
I have just bought the Apexi Rev/Speed meter in purple (ltd edition) which works well as a start. Let us know how you get on with this AVC-R. Currently awaiting a price on HKS silent Hi-power exhaust which is to be my next mod.
Apparently once you start modding, its a one way trap to an empty wallet..!!

Cheers mate....will have to look at Ebay after this...... :)

Ok details.......Its a 1999 WHITE S15 Spec-R AERO BUT its an automatic!! hehe  I know i know......but i do live in london and have just about had enuff of having a sore left leg from all that damn traffic jams! And its only done 24k miles and looks in pretty good nick..... (fingers crossed)

Hey mate, tell me how the exhaust goes as that would be my next mod together with an Air Filter thingy...

Plus i was thinking of getting a dump valve as i love that Psssshh sound....however from reading this forum etc, i noticed that the S15 has a re-circ dumpvalve and some people seem to be saying that i shouldn't change the dumpvalve for the other type (the one that doesn't re-circ!?!?! hehe) as it might not be good for the engine. Anyone can gimme any answers, clues feedback?? Plus who should i get to fit my AVC-R??

Thanks!!!

welcome fella !!

you have got more chance of meeting the queen at a dyno day than getting a mongoose exhaust for an S15...

The AVC-R is not the easiest of DIY jobs if you are clueless and also if you want to do a nice job. I did mine on my S13 and on my old GTR, but I am not running an aftermarket boost controller on the S15.

The factory one holds 1 bar quite nicely with an aftermarket exhaust and air filter.

if you go to nissan silvia.com.. I think there is the S15 manual on their site to download in pdf format. cost = free

you could get a dump valve and bin the recirc stuff... it could affect the way the car runs if it isn't tuned correctly though as the air metered through the AFM will be thought to still be in the system but has actually been vented off. the resultant overfuelling can cause flames !! but in extreme cases can also cause damage to the head alledgedly... don't know if this is true.

get the airfilter and exhaust sorted out and you will have a serious bit of kit, you should be looking down the barrel of 300 bhp, so be careful out of those roundabouts...

see you around..

So ermmm, what's the best way of greeting the queen? Do i give her the same 'wave' ???? hehe

So basically i can get a dump valve and it'll be fine as long as i get it tuned? Cool!

Yeah the next step is def the exhaust / airfilter route but will have to wait a coupla months for that........unfortunately....unless i buy and WIN the lottery today! :D

So i guess my best bet is to take the AVC-R to one of the perf shops and get them to fit it......might as well do it if (or is it WHEN) i get my zorst/filter sorted out.

Cheers Mate!

The AVC-R takes a long time to set up so just get the pro's to install it as they take hours to set up and you need to drive it about to get it to learn.

I shouldn't bother with the bov until you get a front mount intercooler as the pipework will change when you do that.

you bow to the queen and call her Ma'am

on a more serious note, before you spend any more cash speak to option motorsport about tuning it and their recommended tuning path.

I was speaking to Kiki who runs it and he says he can get around 340bhp with full exhaust and airfilter with his mapping. that is another 40bhp over what you get from the zorst and filter.

only about £200 quid too ! so it may be worth a visit.

I am planning on selling mine as I have had it a year soon.
I am still thinking of getting the stage 1 mapping done by option just so I can see what I am missing out on !

Wow! 340 horses!!

That would be fantastic!! Can you really get that from just exhaust and filter? That would be bloody fantastic!! (think i've said that already!) hehe

When u say mapping, do you mean a new ECU or superchip type thingy??

If you do decide to do that steve, make sure you tell us all about it!! That would be fantastic...(again, that word seems to be cropping up!!) :D

Why are you selling ur S15? Is there something we should know? Whatcha gonna get instead??

PS: Will Option do the modifications for me?? Like say for the exhausts, filters and AVC-R etc?? And are they expensive?

Cheers!

The words of the man himself !!

Mapping means to break into the fuel map and rewrite the information on it, tricky stuff for mere mortals.

if you have a working thumb and half a clue about anything you ought to be able to change the airfilter.

I personally like the apexi induction kit.
I have a trust power extreme II exhaust and trust front pipe.

Option will indeed do the work for you as will abbey motorsport or any number of tuners.

I would recommend option as a couple of the guys who work there have real tasty S15's one of which is giving about 500 bhp (Non's one)

until you have seen Non's car you have not seen a proper S15.

I am going to sell up as I don't usually keep my cars for too long anyway. and I am doing at least 80 miles a day in it, so it is not the most economical car in the world.

Time for something more sensible and as the S13 is nearing completion I thought I'd drive that for a while as I save up for something really crap.

still if I get the job I am hoping for I may be getting an R34 GTR within a year so it is not all bad

If I could I would keep the S15 but I like to mod things and the timing isn't good, I need to bget a house and then I can get back into doing silly things with cars...

speak to you soon fella.

Steve,
Checked out this site - could only find manuals on offer for S13 / 14's. (?)
If anyone out there has a copy for S15 I too would very much like details.
Email : bettsc@eurobell.co.uk
Thanks guys.

It's not worth the problems you will have if you don't get at least a hybrid recirculating bov. In fact, if you only want it for the sound you're a ricer (not that i can talk, i've got one). However a tune won't do squat if you have a 100% vent to atmosphere bov. You need a GFB hybrid or stealth (i have a stealth). Check out www.gfb.com.au. Something like the greddy or hks bov's will be fine as well, but the car will run rich on gear changes / liftoff and backfire like a bitch if it's not recirculating enough.

Thanks dave! Haven't done anything yet........Promised the missus i wun touch it for at least 6months......(yeah whatever!!) :Plug: but we all know that it wun be that long before the tuning fever takes ahold of me.........Shh...

But yeah, i thot i read about the BOV needing to be of the re-circ variety and thanks for confirming that! However yes i do indeed want it for the sound (pshhh) and obviously for the added advantage to the turbo protection! SO does the GRB thingy still make some psshhhhh sound??

Cheers mate!

Edited: Dun worry....just read the website! So yes it does make a sound and also re-circs!! Double whammy! Cheers!

you'll find you can hear the std one with an aftermarket cone filter anyway, not too loud but then I like a more subtle approach.

I always thought the noisy ones sound like airbrakes anyway !!

Oh Really???

Nice one....will have to see then....Can u hear it with music on etc while driving or is it like really quiet? What bout from the outside of the car?

Yeah i dun wan a really loud sound but has to be enuff to be heard and KNOWN! :ghey:

stevec

It is about half of the volume of my GTR was so I'd say if you have been in a skyline without aftermarket bov then it is as loud as one turbos worth..

I have never heard it from the outside !

you have to be giving it some though it is really quiet when you are just pottling about only on .5bar boost.
