I treated myself to broadband a while back :D I have the anti-virus software and blueyonder have started their own antivirus filter. Since this I find that I am getting between 6 - 10 infected attachments per day

Does anyone else get infected attachments so frequently?

If this is in your E-mail then yes we all get them, it's the NetSky Virus that caused it in the first place, it will be a while before it is irradicated completely
Scan early and often
Having Broadband and keeping it online 24x7 is very attractive to hackers
Get a trojan killer, spyware killer too, if you use a P2P program such as Kazza be prepared to re-build you PC on a regular basis it is riddled with nasties
However a great source of porn, so I'm told, I wouldn't  know

Funny you should be talking about virusss? viri? I got a nasty trojan last night from one of the attachments in 'non-200sx related chat' Cant remeber exactly which one as it all happened so fast. It was a link to a web site about a chinese guy who had dicovered immortality. lol Zone alarm stopped it then Norton kicked in tried to fix, no joy, so quarantined it. Norton then bombed and would shut down after a few seconds of virus scanning. Found the dodgy files manually through dos. Seems to be ok now though after a succesful virus scan this evening. Should i tel someone about this suspect attacment?

Thats odd, I posted that IIRC and Norton never did a thing here and it updates daily and scans daily now and never had a peep out of it. I have a pop up blocker, did you get any pop ups when you clicked the link? Maybe they caused it?

It's Viruses.

Can you imagine how bored you have to be at work to look up the etymology of the plural of Virus...

You don't get viruses from the sxoc forum, unless they are related to attachments. Blaster infecting your PC Craig whilst being on sxoc was just a coincidence as it propogates itself through a RPS protocol security flaw which leaves a port open to attack by default. Only way to really stop such nasties is keep your windows fully up to date by updating on www.windowsupdate.com and to take precautions like virus scanner with up to date definition files, dedicated trojan / worm scanner (as virus scanners often don't pick up on these) and some kind of firewall, especially if you are on broadband.

No you didn't mate. I'd like to see your "proof".

Spreading misinformation about viruses and trojans etc is as dangerous to non-computer people as the viruses you're talking about, so stop it.

Thats definately not true. You would have been infected by a random computer anywhere in the world. My firewall logs show an attempted attack every 30 seconds from blaster infected PC's It's not the board - its some random internet user.
