View Full Version : Corrado VR6 buying advice needed, please.

A mate of mine has decided he wants a VR6 Corrado and, taking into account that they are getting on a bit now but are still somewhat pricey, has asked me to find out what I can.

Can anyone tell me what the 'obvious' things are that go wrong on a Corrado, likely areas for rust and anything else that is relevant please?

I know it's FWD Scrabbly nonsense but he's made his mind up and that's that.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Loads of people on this board with lots of knowledge, losts of the mk2 golf people have VR6 Engines in them so they can help you with engine probs etc

one of my missus friends used to have one and apparently its fairly common for the fuel filter/line to block and she used to have to pull over and disconnect it, shake it and re-fit it about once a fortnight

The VR6 is a 191bhp surprisingly fast scrabbler... ;)

Let's be frank: A guy who's toying with getting a new Carrera 4 has really got to be keen on Corrados to consider getting one of them instead! :nod:

The guy in question is thinking of stepping up from a MK2 Scirroco.

My mate has a VR6 golf, he reckons std is 164, or is the lump tuned differently?

The Golf is in the 160s.

I thought the Corrado VR6 has two power levels.

Or am I confusing it with the G60 (supercharged but apparently not as quick)? :confused:

Mk3 Golf VR6 has a 2.8 version producing 170 bhp. The corrado VR6 is 2.9 litres and 191bhp. The G60 Supercharged version is also around 160bhp.
