Cat's eyes which can read your speed have been fitted on one of Scotland's roads.
The flashing sensors, which are being pilotted on the M8 near Newhouse, can detect a car's speed and relay information on potential problems to warning signs further down the motorway.
But fears that they might be used to trap speeding motorists have been dispelled by the Scottish Executive who say they are only there to improve safety.
John Godday, the Traffic Controller for Scotland said: "There will be within the trial a couple of small cameras and we will be using thoses to verify very quickly if the technology is telling us the right thing so we'll be very quickly able to see if the traffic's moving but they will be used in just the same way as the rest of the CCTV cameras are used in the centre here purely to monitor traffic they are not being used as an enforcement tool."
