Well, isnt it fcuking typical - warranty is over before things go poo :mad:

I bought a 60Gb Maxtor HDD in 2000, it was the first one offering such a size and it did cost me a fortune of course. Approx a month ago it started getting louder and louder every day. Two weeks ago I then ordered myself a new one, Samsung V80, 80Gb which was a fifth of the Maxtors price...
Anyway, thank fcuk I got all my data off of it in time :)
Yesterday I ripped the broken one apart and it really is the spindle motor or one of its bearings which went bang. Its unbelievable how fast things go on, the old one had four discs squeezed into it, which makes 15Gb each. Actual hard discs now are 80 or even 100Gb per disc :eek:
I have a 4Mb video of the opened drive runnig to demostrate the noise but I still have to find some space to host it...
