Ive noticed that there are a few mountainbikers on this board.. Just wondering if anyone would like to get a ride organised when we get to the summer, say at Forest of Dean? Doesnt matter what you ride as there is stuff for everyone there:) I ride DH and Do a bit of Dirt Jumping.. (not riding at the mo due to my fecking thumb:()
Yeah I'd be up for that, maybe we should exploit the "groups" functionality of this new board...

sounds like a good idea, Im an ex XC racer, but the logistics of gettn everyone together from across the country could be a nightmare...

LMAO, I know the dude, saw him cream most of the Elites from one of his first races in Expert at Innerleithen last summer!!
(I'm a DHer if you hadn't guessed :))
No mountain bikers up north where the proper hills are
Not had a decent ride on my bike since I got the 200 cos I have been too lazy to sort out a bike rack :annoyed: (obviously for the GF's car, as I aint damaging mine)

all u mtb lot should make the trip up to Fort William 1st weekend in June for the World Cup, been at the last 2 and the round of the Avalanche Cup before them and it fookin rocks :D great action and atmosphere, and even better for an excuse for a big pish up! :wack:
Im an ex XC racer
Me too but havent ridden for years ... still got the carbon framed bike my final spnsors gave me in 1995 ... complete with cracked rear stay, worn out XTR stuff, Pace shockers deperatly in need of a service, titanium spokes that have probably welded themseleves into the titanium nipples and Hope hubs & BB that still are like new ... quality products.
I hope to find some time to ride this year, but more like the Yorkshire Dales than the FoD ... bit far really.

Ex Riders count ?
No mountain bikers up north where the proper hills are  I'm in Lancs mate :) Just need to get out on my bike and lose a few pounds first :o :o
That must make me one of the namby pamby southern hill-hating shandys then ;)
Just starting to get back into riding for the summer, being held up by my trashed BB... :smash:
(that and the fact that it takes about 45 mins to get the bike to fit in an s14a...)

Nice collection of bits :) who is the frame made by??? i never went the carbon way... frames were always a bit too stiff... had Ti spokes though... :) but not for long, had a bad landing off a jump in one of the SAMS races, ended up with a totally destroyed wheel... Syncros rim, Ti spokes, XTR Ti Cassette, XTR Mech, chain and twisted swingarm! cost an arm and a leg to put right, so went back to using Sapin SS spokes :)
Well, I might be up for that .... IF I EVER GET MY BIKE BACK FROM MUD-DOCK in Bristol.
Had my bike now for 3 weeks :(
Apparently there is a world shortage of xtr rear mechs

I could be up for it too, I'm more of a trials rider but used to do a little downhill as well. Been riding my Kona to and from work every day, forgot how much fun it is.
Not a shortage of some types of XTR rear mechs - what kind? You checked out the usual online suspects?
Check out www.bikemagic.com - Im sure you all know of it already.
I used to downhill on my fully rigid square tubed Nishiki Alien Al in Aboyne - I did the D-day descent on it back in the day...
I also did a cross country on it near Dundee.
If anyone is up for a bit of a pedal in Laarnden let me know - I only have an XC town rat bike, but it is quick though. Saving up for a lightweight freeride - thought about a whyte 46 - but really want a Santa Cruz VPFree (8 inches VPP travel - pedals like an XC bike, and lightweight - but capable of mild downhilling)
Hell anything is capable of downhilling - I remember watching Dave Lemming winning a downhill race on a rigid Old Skool Klein Adroit (with the huge tubes and splice acid fade paintjob)
If you want to keep your teeth and bits, prolly best to have at least 8'' - well at least thats what my missus insists on...

:) but back in the day, down hill was more like a steep bit of single track, not dropping of the side of the planet, with a few car sized boulders to bounce over!!
Ive a pair of '95 Pace monobox Down hill forks on my freeride bike, huge travel back then - 3" :D
I lusted after them for ages! Pace now have that single crown freeride one now - think its got about 5-6 inches or something.
I also lusted after the pace downhill frame. Basically made like irn bru - from girders. It only had a whopping 5.5 actual inches wheel travel though... Which was astounding for a downhill bike then.
Yeah downhill courses are just ridiculous these days. What next - off the side of the Himalayas - so only 10 foot travel bikes can be used!?! I hear people are getting seriously damaged on international world cup downhill courses, since some of them are TOO gnarly?

it aint all that bad down here:) we have also got Arsenic Quarry down here.. If youve ever seen sprung 2 or 3 then youd know of that  its like riding on the moon, plus ash and a few of the others round here built some HUGE stuff there, i.e, 50ft step down  and some cool rock gardens and stuff.. I think id be well up for Fort Bill this June:) My cousin lives in Ayrshire (sp?) and i can get dirt cheap 5 star accomodation :wack: yey.. If anyone else is up for that i think me and a few mates from down here are definately going...
I'm in Lancs mate :) Just need to get out on my bike and lose a few pounds first :o :o
Tombs and Kev,
Dust your bikes off, I'm not exactly bike fit at the moment (not been on it in 10 months  ) but do you fancy doing some nice easy routes in the next couple of months, it would be cool for a few of us to get out, my mates who I used to go biking with spend more time climbing now so dont go MBing anymore, and if I was left to go on my own my bike will remain sat in the shed
Go on, you know you want to ;)
