View Full Version : s15 sva?
hi there, i am looking to import an s15 silvia/200sx R, and was wondering what is required for the SVA for this car, i.e., fog lights, side repeaters etc... also, was wondering about the speedometer (KPH>MPH), can i simply buy a facia for another nissan which will fit, or do i need new numbering and some kind of converter?
is there anything else I need to know about the car for SVA? many thanks

There are loopholes apparently. The government keeps changing the rules to make it impossible to import new (post 1999) non-EU vehicles. They say that every vehicle has to conform with EU vehicle safety and, therefore, a report has to be produced for every car. As this includes crash testing, its a bit unrealistic for the small importer. However, as Japanese safety tests are more stringent than EU tests, it makes a mockery of the system.

It'll cost you £5000 to get a model report done on an S15 and you'll have to find one that's standard spec or it most likely won't get through I'm afraid.
If you're serious about wanting one, I can help but will warn you that you may find a cheaper car than we do, but you won't find one in as good condition and with as much detail and history as we find on them through our agent.
If you want you can always drop me an email to sales@srbpower.com and include your budget, as I can tell you within a day or so if it's feasible or not.

I've been reliably informed that it would cost around £12k + the cost of the car to do a model report, HOWEVER, modelreports.com do have one that they "rent" out @ £250 + VAT. They have just got one for the Spec R and should be available in approx 6 weeks
oh well, my dreams of owning an S15 have faded away... Tesco told me that their underwriter has become more strict on young drivers with performance cars... (i'm 20 years old on my dads policy). so they basically gave me a quote 3 months ago, but was valid for 30 days, and now i have to be 25 years old to drive an S15!!! unless someone here can recomend another insurer, I'm screwed...

4 young drivers might do it, though your still be screwed, as your have to pay loads! im paying £4800 a year for a s14a im 18 with zero no claims bonus cause i was under my dads name on my last car. but its just until im 19 with 1 years no claims and can switch to adrian flux and pay £1300 year. they wont insure me till then. so im getting ripped off for the first year.
Have you tried adrian flux. They may accept you and their rates are really good. Tett hamilton insures imports from 21 i think so hopefully not to far off for you.
Only use a crap company like the one im with if theres absolutly noting else you can do their really annoying me :whip:
Martin
yeh its gonna cost you a bit on insurance for import too, im 26 and still cost me 1k on insurance
but you will need a few things for sva though. maybe another 2-4k to get it landed in uk though.

WTF
I guess insurance companies are the biggest bunch of thieving :censored: in the UK. Coz that kind of money can buy you a second SX! :annoyed:
Hi im 21 and just brought a 1999 spec r s15. I got gazz'upmted by tescos aswell, but ended up getting insurance through Adrian Flux. Theyre a broker and used Higway insurance, my quote was £2356. But i have 2yrs NCB no accidents and convictions and a warm cosy garage to park my new baby! Its best to try getting insured on a non turbo S15, if you get a quote phone up the following day and ask if they can change it to a Spec r! (thats how i got mine) as once they hear it has a turbo most insurers wont even bother trying to get a quote.
The new law past as i understand it for importing cars is that;
pre 93' imports only require a UK MOT
93'-96' imports require the old SVA, rear fogs Side indicators etc
96'+ imports require an ESVA, requires a model report, and NO mods. Not even an non OEM air filter is allowed. Making it extremely costly and difficult to get the cars on the road. (Unless they are well maintained bog standard cars)
Good luck with the S15, never give up on your dream!
Yea, I'm still looking at getting down an S15-R from Japan, cos my dads in the trade and has a mate who can get hold of such cars... my dad reckons I can bring one for around £7k to 8k (plus esva etc)... so what I plan to do is try to get on my dads trade insurance when i'm 21.... which will solve the insurance problem.
I was also looking at getting an altogether different car recently.... some of u are gonna think i'm a *****, but a merc w124 facelift e36 AMG 1995 (very rare), cos theres one guy selling his not too far from me, and its in excellent condition.
oh well lets see what happens
Good luck.
Don't underestimate the cost of ESVA, etc though. It'll all add up to about £3-4k on that price.
