New to the board, so please excuse the daft question!
My Sony head unit - the standard one - has been screwed into position, probably for added security. I have a new Kenwood minidisc unit that I want to install, but can't remove the old one!
Any help greatly appreciated...

If its an S13, you can wedge the plastic cowling off (goes all the way round the head unit, and right the way back to the gear lever) then there are four screws holding the unit in place.
Just dont FFS tell any car stereo thieves - I reckon I coyuld get one out with an electric screwdriver in about 20 seconds http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif

Yeah i did mine at the weekend-as Docwra says - remove the plastic trim then the 2 screws at bottom and 2 at side and the whole unit with little cubby hole comes out. just unscrew the stereo from the plate and put your new one in - nice!! I even got the CD changer in the glovebox....eventually!!!

oops, should have mentioned the car http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/redface.gif
It's an S14a, non touring and black (and therefore gorgeous).
The surround to the left and right of the centre console appears to be part of the whole dash - does this mean I'll have to remove the whole thing to get at the screws??
Anyone know a decent ICE installer in NE London http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

Meant to put in details of my car!
It's an S14a, standard so far.
The bits either side of the centre console look like they're part of the whole dash - do I need to remove the whole thing?!
Surely I'd need some kind of talent for this?
Maybe the 'local car thief' idea's a good one http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

Not sure how this works, I've posted 2 replies but can't see either of them.
Or am I just stupid?

Edit: stupid it is.

Its quite easy on these. First, un-clip the gearstick surround by getting your fingers under the rim (where the leather joins) and at the back of it (next to 2nd, 4th and reverse) and gently lift. It should unclip. pull out the ash tray and lift the gearstick surround clear, you may want to turn it sideways and put the stick in second to get more room. You should be able to see 3 screws holding the bottom of the centre console (in the corners and behind the ashtray). Now for the top bit (where the vents are), get your fingers under the lip where the switches are and pull (dont worry, it wont break). The whole assembly will unclip. You may want to unplug the 4 switches to clear the top panel and give yourself some room. You should now be able to see 2 screws holding the top of the centre panel, remove these and you'll see 4 screws holding the brackets either side of the stereo. Get these babies out and you're there! (Did I miss anything?)

Just an update - thanks to Marcos' excellent instructions, got it installed without a hitch. Except for one of the live leads coming out and shorting the whole thing!
Quick change of fuse & it's sounding good...
Now, what amp & sub should I use....
