Just wondering if an Alpine CD changer will work if linked up to a pioneer head unit?

Cheers

As far as I know they have to be the same make, and sometimes even that is no guarantee of success depending on the ages of the two units.
You can get interfaces for aftermarket changers so they'll work with standard fit stereo's ie Renault Laguna funny shaped head unit/Alpine changer, these are available from any decent Ice shop.

I wouldn't recommend it. I know some of the manufacterers use the same type interface cable (eg, sony and jvc) but but the way they use them and the chipsets used to communicate are totally different.

You can get CD changers that plug into the radio connector (acting as a radio station)and they run a cable from the changer to controller that is stuck to the dash somewhere, but a same make head unit + changer is best.

Paul is rite..if u using those changer with FM module....then the frequency response of ur system will be limited in FM range regardless how good is ur head unit is..so don't do it. Head unit and changer must be at same brand in order to obtain good sound quality
