View Full Version : What Amp?
Anybody any ideas as to what would be a good Amplifier to power 2 x 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch XL subs? I have a Kenwood (MASK) head unit.
Not looking for anything too expensive mind. Just something that will power them to there potential.
:)
Power them with an amp that will give it the RMS power it requires.
Eg, if the sub is rated at 100W RMS, 300 Peak, then find an amp that will deliver 100W RMS into each sub (a little more power won't hurt either).
There are lots of amps to choose from. Depends how much you want to spend and how much quality you require.
Better quality comes with a bigger price tag.
But get a cheapy amp rated at higher power, you may fry the subs voice coil after a while as the chances are the cheapy amp will be pushing a lot of distortion into the sub.
Check out the post "DLS or BA" in the section. Some advice on amps there.

BEWARE!
Many cheaper amplifier manufacturers quote the RMS rating of the Amplifier electronics. What they do not state, is that invariably, the power supply is not up to the job of supplying the amp electronics.
Longmill amps are a brand that springs to mind.
my sub, Infinty perfect 10.1 say 1300 RMS
Can't be right can it

I am thinking of selling my Earthquake amp if anyone is interested.
Cost me over £400.
one of the built in crossovers needs sorting out.
£150 and it's yours!!!!!
"TXO" SERIES POWER AMPLIFIERS
Undoubtedly, the "TXO" power amplifiers are the epitome in design sophistication. These four channel amps integrate complex features such as:
*12 dB / octave variable low pass crossover.
*12 dB / octave variable high pass crossover.
Four RCA outputs actively crossed into low, high, full range.
*Two 18 dB bass boost @ 45Hz.
*Two 12 dB treble boost @ 12kHz.
*Full fader action between channels 1/2 and 3/4.
*Input sensitivity adjustment control from 0.2 to 4 volts.
4400TXO=RMS power output: 200W X 2 (4ohm)
100W X 4 (2ohm)
60W X 4 (4ohm)
Casual, what needs doing to sort it? How much to fix?

My Perfect 10 said 300W RMS
Cookie, You infinity perfect 10.1 is 1400W Peak, not RMS. The RMS rating is 350W, which basically means you can continuously pump it which 350W RMS, but occasionally crank it up with a monster amp for a short while (This is usually done in competitions where a monster amp is used to compete at max power, then for daily use the amp is gained down so it gives out a lot less power).
Pump 1400W thru that sub on a daily basis, you'l be left whith a very crispy voice coil and no Bass!

One of the crossovers is stuck and can't be adjusted. I was going to put it in my car but i have bought a Vibe 10" sub and combined amp so i don't need it anymore.
Not sure how much it would cost to repair tho....not too much i wouldn't have thought.
