View Full Version : s12 clutch
I've got a ca18et engine in my kit car with an S-E Nissan fast road clutch fitted. Only trouble is in this nice cold weather the engines making a bit more power and on full boost it slips. Could anyone tell me where to get a (cheap!) driven plate that will make it lock up better. It doesnt matter if its fiece as I dont slip it anyway! Also does anyone know if the s13 clutch (or any of the sx models) is the same or fits as they seem to have higher power handling figures. Thanks in advance Benno
I have an SE Nissan fast road clutch and to be honest that is probably an S13 clutch as S13 clutches are supposed to be a direct replacement. SE Nissan like to con us.
What power do you think you're putting out? How old is the clutch?
Thanks for the info - I always got the impression se - nissan are a bit naughty. The clutch is only about a year old (3000 miles) and its always felt a bit marginal. At least I know that I can get an s13 paddle now. Not sure what the engines turning out but I think in the region of 270bhp. Its got a t3, supra intercooler, 5th inj and runs about 18 psi. And it weighs 580 kg:thumbs: .Any idea where the cheapest place to get a paddle plate is?

Is there no adjustment left? 3000 miles between clutches, even if they are SE ones is taking the Michael. What is the clutch rated to? What do SE say about it?
Ben
The clutch was rated at 240bhp but i thought i'd get away with it because the car is light and tends to spin the tires more than slip the clutch. I checked there was slack in the linkage straight away but no probs there. I dont think there is anything wrong with it i think its just being over powered - if i turn the boost down its fine but that goes against the grain. Should have put a better one in while i was at it. :(
My old S13 that went to Sneezer (board member) to get broken had a big fat Nismo Plate on it - 90% it was paddle as well :D
That oughta hold it Id say

I think the S13 boys use an AP friction plate with a standard cover for up to 300bhpish
Oh, here you go, this is from the S13 blaggers guide
Gearbox/Clutch/Differential
- LUK clutch kit is cheap £110 and proven for 260-280bhp (4/5)
- AP Paddle friction plate & Nissan cover good for 300bhp (4/5)
- AP friction plate & Nismo cover good for well over 300bhp (5/5)
- Fit an LSD from a post facelift if your pre-facelift (or early facelift) S13 doesn't have one. S14 one will fit. S14 gearbox will also fit and has longer ratios (4/5)
I believe only the plate is interchangeable with the S12 not the cover as there are different fixings on the flywheel

Nope, the cover fits as well which is the main upgrade in fitting a stock S13 clutch as the pressure is 550kg, where as an S12 cover is 450kg.

Ah I remember now (hindsight and 20-20 vision and all that. Its the flywheel that has the different bolt pattern.
See its always worth asking:nod:
