View Full Version : just need help!!!!
got through the engine bay in to the car with the power cable (thanks to every one who helped) now, i thoought running the cables was going to be the easy bit as i've done it on so many other car, but where is the best place to run them, the sills don't have enought room (the trim keeps popping back up) HELP PLEASE, i just want bass is this a crime!
search the ice section for my fitting a... sub/amp in a s14
Firstly, chill out and have a cuppa.
Feeling better? Good.
Now then, As far as I can remember, there's plenty of room for cables, just pop out the carpets and trim, (I'm assuming your on about interior trim) and make sure you poke the cables nice and far under the carpets.
The only real problems I had were getting speaker cable through the flexible rubber conduits in the doors and getting the cable run through to the boot, in both cases a ball of twine and a wire coathange proved invaluable.
I'm about untill 7ish this evening, if you can be specific as possible I'll tell you how I managed to bodge....I mean Install my gear.

going to leave it for today, try AGAIN tommorrow. isn't the carpet stapled down, or don't you mean near the sills?
AND how do you run the cable into the doors?
Right, the carpets on an S14a are stapled to little white clippy things that then clip into the sill, ie the place all your coins end up when they fall out of your troosers, pop off the plastic kickplates and simply pop out the clips with a flat screwdriver (preferably taped to avoid scratches) and most of the carpet can be lifted to run speaker wires, RCA cables and live power feed. It's important to run the power separately (pref. down the other side of the car) from the RCA and speaker cables to avoid interference.
To get the cables from the cabin to the boot, pop out the black plastic side trim where the front seat belts run and back passengers sit, get a long bit of coat hanger with twine taped to the end and shove it through to the boot.
You've now got a long bit of string with which to pull through your speaker/RCA cables (make sure you tie cables to the middle of the string, then you just pull it back and forth untill all your cables are located. Make sure no cables foul your seat belt mechanism.
Cables to the front door:
Remove all door trim (see previous posts for more info). Remove plastic trim around fuse box by drivers right foot.
there's a flexible rubber conduit between the door and the A pillar, the original speaker wire and door loom runs through this, get a fairly stiff (ooer) length of wire and shove it through the various holes following the original loom, you can pop the conduit out if this proves difficult. Then give the wire a wiggle and you should see it aroung the drivers footwell.
This is all from memory so apologies if it's all horse****! I'll be online tomorrow as well so let us know how it goes.
Good luck

YOU ARE THE MAN! all the cables are in. the only thing i haven't done is got in to the doors. I can't find the link!
Is it easy to remove the door trim, i don't want to start then break some thing or have to stop AGAIN!
I well happy now though, i can start my boot build, this is the bit i'm good at. Cheers for ALL you help!
Door trims:
As far as I remember, pop out window switch from trim and unplug, unscrew door handle surround and remove, then go round the door taking out any plastic or metal screws, I think there are some on the underside of the door bin, then it should pop out at the bottom and lift out at the top.
Disconnect the speaker wires and you should be sorted.
I think.

If you're amping your door speakers, you can run the wire thru the existing rubber hose near the hinge of the door. Pain in the butt but I manage to run 2 10 gauge speaker wires thru it. Very tight fit and ended up with lots of cuts and bruise on my hands.
