View Full Version : ice install
I'm just out to buy some ice for my 200, has anybody got any idea on what works well in a s13? I already have an alpine head/cd changer unit but need some direction on amp,sub(1 or 2?),wiring etc. Trouble is I only have around £400 to spend........ please help.
Ive an Alpine V12 400W amp you can have for £80. Im only selling it because Ive now got some Rockford Fostage stuff for my car :)
It will happily power a 12" sub and a pair of 6x9s or 7x10s. Youd be better off going for a seperate amps for the normal speakers though and just use the V12 for the sub. Its currently in my car powering a pair of 12" JBLs and it does ok but should really be dedicated to just one sub.
Ive also got some wiring that you might be interested in. Theres some Autoleads triple screened professional pre out leads (3.5m length), new boxed, normally sell at £30 (retail at £35) but Ill do you them for £20. Ive got the same leads in my own car :)

Stick some 6.5" components in the doors, then do the amp and sub.
For £400 you should be able to stick with Alpine.
But then for 400 notes, you could go for JL Audio XR components and have some change left for a CD :D

Heres what I had in mine:
Front: Rockford Fosgate 6x9s £110
Rear: Kenwood 7x10s in MDF shelf £ 80
Maystar 12" sub in ported box£ 60
Jensen 4/3/2 channel, 600W(!)Amp £170
Total £420 + a bit of MDF, carpet, glue and a few hours labour.
Quite cheap but very loud and good quality sound.
I personally would go for a minimum high quality install over a vast cheap one any day. Cheap subs in a crap box will rattle your brain but will sound very poor. Go for high quality mids and tweets in the doors and a single high quality sub in a well designed and built box.
Dont skimp on wiring either, go for thick power cables and oxygen free speakere wires along with good quality pre out leads.
Run the pre out leads and speaker cables down one sill and the power lead down the other to help reduce intereference :)

If we are really going down the do it properly route, you should have all three set's of cableing running seperately. Power down one side, pre-outs through the middle and amplified return down the other side.

Bren I would be interested in your Amp if its still for sale.
What model amp bren? Do you have any pics?
Cheers.
I agree with Bren. Go for quality not quantity. Get some decent 6-6.5" components for the front, a reasonable 12" sub (I have a £90 Rockford Fosgate and is sounds ok) and a 3/4 channel amp to power it all.
PLEASE don't go for 6x9's
