Reversing

Why do all cars make that whining noise when reversing? I would have though it was possible with today's technology to get rid of this!

very much so!! as ever body knows gearbox hamsters hate reversing! they make this known with the whining noise you hear
Nissan tried to stop this by putting very small gags on the hamsters but after a few thousand miles the hamsters just chewed through them :mad:

The forward gear teeth are helical hamster shaped.
The reverse gear teeth are straight cut hamster shaped.

talking about alarms (sorry for the hijack)
one was going off in a car park in Pompey the other day and, instead of one tone, it cycled through about 10 different ones, each one lasting for about 15/20 seconds.
Bloody marvellous as loads of ppl turned to look.

I had one of those on a Citroen BX 16v, it went off as I was doing 100 leptons down the A50 - cars were scattering like nine pins!

My mate's old beetle used to have the reversing light on a switch on the dash - whenever anyone got too close he'd flick the switch at the lights and rev the nuts off the engine. I used to love the look of sheer panic on the face of the roybacer behind as we crawled slowly (it is a bug after all) away :D :D :D
