It let me down on saturday. Again.
I've had enough, anyone know the cheapest way to get a mechanical LSD on my car which will guarantee a lock up each and every time? Also, does anyone know what sort of price I can expect to pay?
Cheers in advance,
astraboy.

I don't know much abou this apart from what i have read other people say. I think basically a Nismo or Cusco one would be good, but from what i gather they can be extreme for road use especially the 2 way ones. They seem to be around the £650 range, although thats off the top of my head.

The only other option i know of is the research NewClearBomb is doing into uprating the standard one, although i haven't seen any news here for a while.

just a quick update. I now have a prototype unit and the guy uprated it from 30mn breakaway torque to 185nm, over 600% stiffer
I just need to get it fitted and tested, then we know if it's a goer.
At the moment estimated price is around the £400 mark.
If not before, I'll have it sorted for the March practice day

That sounds good, it will be great to hear back about how it is during the practice session. Just out of interest, as i have no idea, how difficult is it to remove and replace the LSD?

taking the diff off the car is a pain but you can do it yourself. Ideally you really need a set of ramps and a good set of tools because some of those bolts can be an absolute bugger (just ask Phatty ;))
As far as swapping the new viscous coupling into the diff, I'm not 100% sure how hard it is but it's not exactly rocket science is it? I think as long as you follow the workshop manual and use the right tools it shouldn't be too tricky. (I might be trying this myself shortly and if I do I'll let you all know how hard it is)
Having said that, if you can find a good gearbox place they should be able to whip the diff off, replace the coupling and put it back on in a day and charge you under £200 for doing so.
Your call.....
Also worthy of mention is that you have to run-in a mechanical LSD after install whereas you won't have to with these.
