Lads are the 88 (old) MR2s any good for drifting in?
I know they've the same engine as the AE86, so power wont really be the issue.
Im just looking something cheap to get me started off.

I've seen a red 1 in some jap drift vids, it seems to do the job :)
I used to have an '87 MR2- not so easy to drift because of the engine being almost over the rear wheels. You will find you suddenly find grip and get into a tank-slap situation.:( It's not impossible, but there are easier cars to do it in.

No LSD as standard either. I think there's one in the supercharged version, but they're Jap imports only. Fensport do an LSD for £599 + VAT
You'd probably need to do some sort of good tyres front, really really bad tyres back thing as well - I really struggle to get mine sideways on wet roundabouts (p6000's back, uniroyals front) - clutch kick is the only way to go now. With crappy tyres on the back it's very slidey, very controllable, and very good fun. The mk1's don't suffer the vicious snap oversteer that the mk2's seem to have. Probably something to do with them being street legal go karts. :)

Wonder if its difficult to fit the diff or LSD out of an AE86. Theres planty of them over here in Ireland anyway and it wont be too difficult to pick that part up. But its just the fitting etc that could be the nard park of it.
I used to have one and it would go sideways but as has been said here it needs quite severe provacation. They are a top car though, great fun to drive and i loved the engine. Dare i say it, but it felt like it had more of a soul than my s14.

Oh, they certainly have character. Mine keeps me on my toes by starting new and exciting noises every month.
First it was an exciting belt-whiney noise from the cambelt area - left it alone and nothing blew up, so I guess it's OK. Now it makes a creaky noise when I brake at low speeds, dunno what that is.
It clunks over bumps, so it probably needs new droplinks.
:)
Yeh mine spent more time off the road than on it, mainly due to gearbox, head gasket, and lots and lots of rust.
Saying all that i am half tempted to get one as my drift car, its definatly my second choice after an S13.

Tell you what mate, I'll swap you mine for your s14a :D
Much as thats an appealing offer the plan was to keep the s4a and get something else specifically for drifting.
I do like my s14a alot, its a damn nice car, best car i've ever owned, which is the main reason that i don't really want dented body panels from cones.

I agree with that. In an ideal world I'd have one of each!
