View Full Version : Which 200sx for drifting
Ive got uptp £2.5k to spend on a 200sx and want the car for road use and also for drifting. Im going to start attending the meets rather than drift/donut around car parks in Manchester :D
But I cant decide which is a better car for drifting a late S13 (with LSD) or an early S14. Seen a few S14's in trader for around the £2.5k mark.
Ive owned 2 S13's in the last year and I love them :smitten: :smitten: . Ive also had a MR2, GT4 and a few BM's but the S13 makes me :smitten:
Never driven an S14 so just wonderd which car you guys recommend. 2.5k is the budget..

You're not gonna get much of an S14 for £2.5k, but you could get a good S13 for £2k which leave a bit for a few mods.
At that budget get the S13:nod:
I personnaly recon the s14 is a better drift car, but for £2k I'd buy a s13 + mods. If it was £3-3.5k it'd be a tougher decision.
Dunc.
so overall you would say a S14 makes a better drift car than the S13 ?
If I could push up my budget you think I should get an S14.
Has anybody seen the 180sx Type X in the 'for sale' section. £3800  what do you think to that

No, just about to look tho - sounds good!
My opinion is really based on experience where s14s seem to take the punishment a bit better (an have a bit more torque and power to loose traction with the rears as standard).

dunno dunc, seems of the vids ive watched 90% of the 200's drifting are 13's.
14's have more weight.
If ur gonna be drifting ull probs be looking at suspension and power mods anyway so id say go with a 13 for bout 1k and budget for engine re-build, springs shocks and arb's

I'm guessing that might be because the 2.0L s13's are so popular in Japan therefore giving the ability to take that bit more punishment I mentioned and also the extra torque/power mentioned in my post :p
Just MO tho ;)
nah its coz they look better:nod:
bstard i forgot bout that, doh!

180SXs have a 50:50 weight balance, whereas S14s do not. Don't know how it applies to UK S13s though.

At last, we agree on something  :D
Think UK s13's are 51% front wheels and 49% back so pretty close.

Don't forget my posts do not necessarily represent events or objects that actually exsist and are therefore to be considered as a load of old bullshit.

This is a complete guess, and i'm probably wrong but i would have thought the sr20det is heaver than the ca18.

Ain't that the truth :D
Now im totally confused :wack:
But I think I will go for a S13. I loved my first one so much, the only car Ive ever regretted selling. Going to try and get a Black one..
According to the "Drift King" The S14 is more oversteer prone than the S13 which is very understeery apparently :) I know he meant the Silvia S13 not the RS13 but still :)

Im going to see an S14a tonight :D If its nice Im gonna buy it.
Was going to buy a Plasma TV after christmas (hence the £2.5k budget) but screw it....
Id rather have my 21" Bush TV from Argos and a S14a parked outside my window than a 42" Plasma screen TV.
Biggest advantage of the S14a is that it looks nice and its much newer (no rust, little to go wrong) and the SR20DET is stronger than the CA18DET so less mechanical problems. So in the long run it will cost much less (this is what I told my girlfriend :smash: :smash: )
