I'll take a look on Wednesday if your car is around

It's not going anywhere Chris, not unless I get a trailer!

Still, gives JC something nice to look at out his window

I may be able to help you there.
If your tail pipe is the same size as an Apex single box I may be able to lend you my bung
My plans for the 'aftermarket Apex twin silencer' ( :wack: ) may have bourne fruit by the weekend ;)

If I'm succesfull and can still pass the noise test without it then you're more than welcome to borrow my bung

Cheers for that, i'll see what size the tailpipe is. I don't really want to run with a bung in if i can help it for obvious reasons. But if i haven't a choice...

If it gets to a 100% not gonna make it stage, I'll drop my tickets and stand pass through Nismo Mark's door later tonight so he can take them up there. Anyone who wishes to make a small donation to me via Mark for the tickets is welcome with thanks, but not instructed to do so:)

Wow, what a fantastic day. :D

The sun was shining, the 200sx did the club really proud and I was honoured to have been there for it. Really good to meet a few more folks from the club that I hadn't met before, as well as the regulars round my neck of the woods. I can't wait for the next one, when is it? :wack:

Seeing you guys having so much fun on the track was making me really green with envy as well. I reckon it mightn't take too much persuasion to get me out there next time.... :o

Gotta give massive thanks to Vez for organising it. :notworthy :notworthy
And also thanks to everyone who went on track and gave us all the thirlls and spills (eh, tone? ;) :p )

A fantastic day

I had a wonderful time, esp. on track
Best bits had to be the corners as I kept gaining on Vez through 'em :smash: :p

Seriously though :notworthy to Vez for organising it all

Oh, and  to the noise limits!

MattyGee
22-05-2004, 19:59
first off, :notworthy to Vez for organising everything, it was an excellent day :)
secondly another :notworthy to all you lot who went on track - it was excellent to watch.

Hi to everyone i met, too many to list  great to see everyone again as always :)

Vez
22-05-2004, 20:02
Errrr, yeah after I was in pootle mode as my oild temp climaxed at 135 degrees, and my heater was on full belt, hot in my car was an underestimation :D (heater on kept oil temp reasonable though  ).

Had a do with Bren towards the end after a few easy laps

Didnt like traffic on the circuit to start with, like it in the second section, speed through the corners being an advantage :)

Need brakes, need oil cooler, need to find boost leak

 to Bigtone and his Cheese String suspension :wack: you give a whole new meaning to "Smack my bitch up" You will go around this corner in the persute of vez, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, standing ovation and cheers :D

 to the spinners for not bending anything or anyone else, not mentioning any names, wallers or indeed Sir Cheese String!

Richies car survive  and was sounding excellent.

Hopefully the fottage will be quite good, petes gonna organise a showing for the NW lot of the raw footage.....but no matter how good the coverage, it wont beat the view in my rear view whilst doing 120, of Bigtone: Orange/purple/orange/purple/orange/purple, is that what flip paint is for mate?

Sorry if anyone missed me, was having a good look around ;)

Missy

Great day.. i was on the 200plus club stand.. but did have a wander over and took some piccys and said a few hellos...

You guys on track have my :notworthy 100%... You were along with the scooby lot defo the best giving it some on track... Then found out he is still on standard suspension... AWESOME GEEZER....

LOL has to go out to Bigtone... Floored it out of the pits sideways... And then on the later session has a bit of a sphinter twitcher coming down the pit straight...

Finnaly seen Richies car on track and it was AWESOME...

I really need to learn how to drive my car...

Oh and a big  Goes out to the guy in the 32GTR who mashed it up and the scoob too... :(

Great day apart from that... Just hope no-one got pulled on the way home... there was SEVERAL unmarked coppers on the M5...

dj_C
22-05-2004, 20:57
Hmmm...I pootled along on the way down, after all the police warnings, and ended up having half the mr2oc trying to mate with my rear bumper. Only saw one jam sandwich (in the village of Tiddlywink, which I thought was a spoof roadsign!). Didn't see anything on the M4 on the way home, when the average speed was >100mph, it seemed. FTOs were flying past me as if I was parked....

I think 'tone is combing his flip paint so its all in the right direction, bit like parting your hair I suppose :ghey:

Jezz_S13
22-05-2004, 21:06
Yeah that scoob hit the wall at Camp Corner.
I really struggled with that corner too, infact i ****ed most of them up at least once.

Just got in. Firstly massive thanks to Tone for letting me stay at your place last night. Big thanks to Vez for getting our slots sorted.

What a great day, everyone on the track was very well behaved and made it a really good day. Tone you are a fecking nutcase if you aint 2 meters in front of me for a whole lap laughing as I can't get round you, you spin out leaving me and Jez seconds few to take avoidance action. Sorry to anyone who's eardrums I may have burst going past (I wont be able to hear properly for a few hours yet after the 4 hour drive home). Did anyone get any footage of my car from another car on the track (if so can I have a copy..... good money paid i.e P&P :) )

Bigtone's car actually sounded louder than yours from the trackside - but yours sounded fecking cool :smitten:

And the acceleration - looked like your passenger was gonna have whiplash, the way his head snapped back every time you put your foot down :D

I had an awesome time - huge thanks to Vez for sorting it all out.

The best bits for me were: tone spinning out in a flippping orange / purple strobe of colour, richie seemingly unable to drive around the final chicane ;) , one of the S14s trying to put me off with an enormous smoke screen and JC for chatting all the way round the track while I'm trying to concentrate on sticking with richie :)

Anyway, brilliant day out - just hope my neck and face recover soon...

One of my favourite parts was when you overtook me going into the chicane in the morning session, you went into it too fast and got sideways, I had to brake hard while turning to make sure I didn't hit you and we both ended up going through the chicane sideways :D

I had a good time - despite being overtaken by everyone ;) It was the first time I had driven on a track and I didn't stand much of a chance in the only standard car on track with the likes of Richie and Tone out there too! Hope I didn't hold anyone up too much.

Oh, and I really need to sort out my brakes before I think about having another go.

i thought everyone in our track sessions did very well - no one was holding people up or driving dodgily (unlike some of the other sessions - ) :)

one of my sessions (the re-run of the R32 crash session) it all went shit shaped.

we all left the pits in a continous line so there was no spacing and everyone was jsut driving around in a big clump at aobut 40mph. Until the faster cars got frustrated and started to overtake on corners.
Then some tosser in a Silver jag wouldn't let me pass, infact cut into me twice, i was stacks faster than him, but just couldn't get by. :(

Mullered an RX-8, a white GTS-T though. They we both very satisfying.
Also had a few other cars, celica, mr2, buffy and an s14.

Traction control out of the chicanes and the quarry was awesome.

I suspect that he was jsut a typical Jag driver, won't let anything past.

He just kept the racing line all the way around and I wasn't confident enough to do him on the shorter straights or any of the corners, twice on the long staight infront of the pits I had a really good run on him but he cut into me at the kink.

Did anyone get any footage of my car from another car on the track (if so can I have a copy..... good money paid i.e P&P :) )
no probs mate your welcome anytime.(hope all my home defence weaponry
didnt scare you) :D

Yeah - I remember that - sorry :o - I was going into the chicane miles too fast - I was pre-occupied with making sure I'd got past you so I could get back on the right line - by then I had left braking too late and end up getting all sideways... ooops... :)

Then some tosser in a Silver jag wouldn't let me pass, infact cut into me twice, i was stacks faster than him, but just couldn't get by. :(

Really pisses me off when that happens  After a lap or so I usually give them a flash of the lights, just so they know I'm there and if that doesn't work I try and follow them fairly closely to make them drive faster than their car will allow. They either get it sideways then get out of the way or just loose it completely. I've had it happen to me ages ago (I ended up spinning off) - just taught me to get out of the way if someone is clearly quicker.

I realize its not very nice, and I only resort to it after at least a lap of being held up. Just really annoys me cos I've paid to drive fast and the bloke in front is effectively wasting my track time...

Didn't have any probs on either of the 2 sxoc sessions though :)

Yeah, if i was confident enough I would have done something like that. The guy was clearly a better driver on track than me and more confident with the track position etc, but did annoy a fair bit, as I could have got past and even if I was slower into the corners & chicanes I was much quicker out of them and on the straights.
I saw him cutting up other people before I got to him too.

I tihnk the difference with the SXOC lot is that we all know each other and are not out to prove anything, not only that we sort of know who's fast etc, e.g. I just got out of the way of you and Richie because it's was pointless not to, if I'd have been pushed I'd probably have lost it. I lost it a fair bit as it was but I'd hate to have taken any of my own kind out.

I want to do it agin soon though, I loved it, going to see if we can get down to Pembrey when Phill S14 is back together.
Want to get some better grippier tyres though, I've never been too sure about the AVS sports that came with the wheels, they are a lot harder than the Toyo's that I'm used to.

A cheap set of 17's and some semi-slicks would be cool.

I didn't have any brake problems though, they were excellent infact.

My brakes were actually ok too - no fade - had a bit of a prob with ABS as you come into Quarry which made me loose the line once.

If you go on any dedicated track days in the future, get a lesson. It'll make you more confident and a lot lot quicker.

Yeah that's exactly what i was planning on doing.
I was actually planning on getting Lynn one too (she's about to do her driving test) so she can see why I enjoy driving.

After yesterday though I'm not sure it's such a good idea as soon as she passes her test cos I found it much harder than I expected it would be. Perhaps my car is just isn't terribly well set up, it seemed to like to slide a lot. It was a pretty even slide though, not under or oversteer, just the whole lot went sideways LOL.

Prob best to let her get the hang of driving normally first - unless shes a natural.

Are you sure you're not running on the bump stops? I was which is why I've raised the height of my car a bit - makes it handle 10 times better.

So you think lowering the car is not necessarily the way to better handling? Apart from the terrible brake fade I got a bit of understeer, I can't really lower my car because of all the :censored: speed humps where I live and I was thinking a stiffer anti roll bar would be a relatively cheap way of improving things.

Incidentally it handled better than I expected, I was expecting the handling to be worse than the brakes - you live and learn

I really enjoyed the track session, although I spent all day being nervous, and then a bit slow once on the circuit. I hope I didn't get in anyone's way. :)

Definitely agree with Jez's advice to get some tuition. I will be doing that as soon as I can, as I think that's the best way to give me some confidence not to pootle around the corners like your granny.

Good to see everyone, and I think the SXOC definitely made a good impression with an fantastic looking stand and two exciting track sessions.

Nah, not really. :D Another lap and I'd have gone past you (and been lapped by Bigtone and Richie again  )

Think I'd like a proper lesson. The Haynes day helped a hell of a lot, but I still didn't have anyone in the car saying 'do this' or 'do that'. Still, if I'D done both sessions I'd definitely have been going quicker. :D

Yes. First time on a race track. Been on a drift track one, but that's a bit different. :D Funny thing is I couldn't get the hang of that either!!

Thanks for the encouragement. To me the most important thing was to get around safely and not endanger anyone. And I definitely had a lot of fun in the process. I learnt a lot out there and even manage to take a couple of the corners quickly!! :)

It didn't take me long to realise that the limits of my car are very high. And it is reassuring to know that when you breach those limits, the car gives you plenty of warning. Now I just need to learn the skills to respond to those warnings. :)

To all the SXOC guys on the track

My first time on a track and I'm still smiling. The stand was great too. Reading the other post's I think I managed to keep out of everyones way. I was impressed with the perfect manners of us out on track. Memories of pushing as hard as I dared :ghey: , and then Richie or Tony blasting past will get me through the dull days at work untill the next meet.

I was sorry I didn't say hello to many people, I admit I'm not sure which face to put to which name. I prob need to get out more.

Bren..

Chris Mann from the 200plus club keeps going on about elvington for a track day... I need somewhere that is safe and has LOADS of run off for spinning etc for my first trackday,... Would you recommend it?

I was going to do Bruntingthorpe but it got cancelled... Once i have got my turbo on, and the rest of the work i am willing to give it a go... Just need to find somewhere that does Biiiiiig harnesses...

Elvingtons perfectly safe. In fact out of all the track days Ive been to Ive only ever seen two crashes, one dickhead Cossy driver who was always going to crash at some point (drove like a proper numpty) and a Golf at Cadwell Parkl that was trying too hard.

In fact I saw more bumps at Japfest than Ive seen at ALL the other track days Ive ever done combined!

Elvingtons a great laugh but hard on your tyres.

Id recommend it to anyone. Big, open and safe :) I doubt youll spin, its easier to drive on the limit on a track than people think. The 200s are very neutral on the edge :)

Have a look at www.bookatrack.co.uk and www.javelin-motorsport.co.uk

Those are the two companies we use a lot. You might want to go to Elvington on Sat the 19th of June with Javelin. They have something new that theyre trying out which will make it twice as interesting as most track days at an airfield. I cant say what it is but Im defo going to be there ;)
