View Full Version : Jan And Feb Practice Days At Silverstone

PhilMorrison
03-12-2003, 12:33
okay, it looks like it 'may' be possible to arrange a couple of earlier practice days, but OPT are concerned that at this time of year there is a possibility that they would not get the numbers

they need a minimum of 25 people to break even

can we have a show of hands from people that are definatly interested in having a practice session at some point around the end of January, and 1 at the end of Febuary please!!!

Oh aswell as the pole can u put ur names below please :)

Thanks :)

Phil

I'm interested although it will be dependent on cost etc. Is it going to be in the Silverstone car parks, with cones etc?

PhilMorrison
03-12-2003, 12:54
yep :)

I'd come to a practice day if it's a weekend

James
03-12-2003, 13:06
more more more, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned :)
would be nice to have some a little more local though. seems a shame to drive miles to go and use a big car park...
what about Ikea? :p

Gary

I would like an extra praccie day at the end of Feb... and the end of Jan just seems to soon after chrimbo.. and my car needs a lot of tlc first :)

Jason
03-12-2003, 13:13
i voted for end of feb, although i wouldnt mind which...
if my cars back then either would be good, end of feb gives me more of a chance to get it ready :)

As long as its after the 15th of Jan, and on a weekend, ill be there. And Feb.

I'm interested in both Jan and Feb. However because I work some weekends, I won't be able to give a definate answer until I know the dates.

I'm interested, but as with the people above it would depend on the dates/price again.
I voted Jan mainly because I can't afford to go drifting and attend a track day in Feb.
However, I might manage to squeeze the funds together for Feb if that ends up being the decided upon date:nod:

AFAIK there will be no wetting of the track unless the weather provides :)

i would be interested if its on a weekend, can beginners
join in? my car should be fixed by this month so if everything
goes well, i will make it. I will try and tell afew more people
and get more people going.
End of january or feb would be good for me, just hope it doesn't
snow during feb like usual.

CorollaRWD
03-12-2003, 15:24
Yeah I would be up for it, rather it be on a sunday though.
Min of 25 seems alot of money for a car park though? Is it the whole day?

Quick point but to hire the big space think its 500m by 100m at North Weald is 500 quid for a day, I think OPTION could make a excellent track there.
Think Brunters used to be cheap as well.
Think silverstone are cheeky fackers money wise, not exactly like the car parks are in use most of the time.

yeah OPT are paying alot more than that:indiff:

costs for us will be £60 still, and I think it'll be 9-5, and for the sake of argument, we'll pressume it to be the last sunday in Jan,and the last Sunday in Feb :)

cloudandy
03-12-2003, 15:44
from 9 to 5, we are going to need alot of rubbers then.
Would there be any different classes on the day and
i dont suppose there would be every car going in at once?

cheers
andy

PhilMorrison
03-12-2003, 15:53
no it would be 1 or 2 cars at a time I would have thought, tyres, u'd be suprised how long it takes to smoke away a set of tyres, as u can swap front and rear after half a day to even out the wear if necessary :).. I hope that there will be different sections like there was at the 1st comp I did, which was a donut area for beginners, a figure of eight area for intermediates, and a track for intermediate/pro, and basically you can progress through the sections throughout the day at ur own pace.. it seemed like a good way to do it :)

cloudandy
03-12-2003, 15:57
that would be great if different classes are seperated as you said,
i think you need to talk with the option guys about further
details so we all can confirm the event.
 If there are 2 cars going out at once only then would
it ended up queuing up more than taking part? Since there
would be more than 25 cars i suppose? What was it like
this year when you started it?

cheers

Good job since we've got somewhere to drift now :smitten: ,
i was thinking maybe we could find elsewhere
to pratice as well as with option if there are enough people are interested, CorollaRWD had made some points and places,
do you think that is worth doing, if its not too far?

i might try and find some details for drift practice locations in this area (Yorkshire/Lancashire etc) - reason why i say is cos silverstone is a 3+hour journey for us boys and there are tons of airfields around here - similar to elvington (suppose thats one good thing that came out of WW2:wack: )

will find out. its all useful i suppose

what's the general consensus on using standard s13 wheels for drifting? i dunno if it'll muck the balance of the car up or anything - but i got 7 standard wheels, most with new tyres, so it'd be nice to be able to burn them up rather than ripping through expensive toyos...

anyone tried this with an uprated setup?

Just a quick note about race suits for this season. I was asked the question 'what sort of suit should be brought for the 2004 competition events' and the best thing for everyone would be to purchase a cheep fireproof one, as in 2005 if we manage to get the competition on other tracks their regluations differ slightly in that the suit must be fireproof but does not have to be FIA approved.

Good man! That’s what we like to see Idiots... ow no I mean Beginners having a go. At the end of the day that’s the only way to learn and have loads of fun at the same time, safely and legally.

If anyone out there is new to drifting and wants to have a go then the best place to practice is, funnily enough, our practice events. We will have tuition on offer wear you can learn things like 180 bend, s bend, figure of 8 etc.. And a track section to practice all your skills.

Unlike Turweston we will not be using those great big motorway cones but instead we shall be utilising the tiny little cones from a Tonka truck play set so if you hit anything its not going to cause any damage to your cars!

Still trying to confirm another practice date for Feb but if that doesn’t happen then hope to see you all at the March Practice session, unless my wife drops the sprog as its due mid March.

Also I have already started to get cheques for the March event and as its limited numbers I would advice getting your cheques in now. Remember you'll need a helmet to take part at that event.

Taking bookings for the whole year

Maybe im being paranoid, but thats means Im gonna have to book for the whole lot (well competitions at least) now, otherwise im bound to not get a space as they are bound to be busy this year.

That means I need to find a hell of a lot of money that I dont have in one go :indiff:

Lee

Genjuro
13-01-2004, 15:42
I would have thought 1 event at a time would be best, from the point of view of the old timers and new people. The new guys would only want to book 1 or 2 in advance in case they don't like it, or decide it harms their car too much, whereas the more experienced drivers might damage their car and not be able to compete at the next event or something. Also its quite alot of money to find in one go.

PulsatingStar
13-01-2004, 15:49
Yeah but if not everyone thinks like that and then you dont get a space your stuffed!

Scott
13-01-2004, 18:07
I wouldn't worry too much about not getting a place, Silverstone were pretty good about numbers at the events I went to last year Option/ Autocar.I think the Autocar event had over 60 entrys.Check with Mash but I thought Option were taking money on the day albeit £40 more but If your not sure you can make a certain date its worth bearing in mind:)

Manish, Best of luck with the Kiddy:thumbs:

Scott.

PulsatingStar
13-01-2004, 18:21
Yeah was at Autocar and the last couple of D1 rounds, but on the Autocar day you only got 1 run hence they could do loads of people.

Im sure it will work out fine, I just like to have something to moan about :D

Lee

MASH
14-01-2004, 09:13
Scott,

Cheers.

Lee,

Stop moaning.. Only kidding...

We plan to limit the numbers of people that take part at our events in order to please the guys that take part. Fewer people taking part means more track time for those who do. The Autocar event had a million people take part to maximize their profits for the charity, however our events are run with just enough people to cover the cost of the event. We hold the events because we love going sideways or watching others going sideways not for massive profits. So we won’t be allowing loads of people to just turn up and pay on the day if we manage to fill the allocated slots before the day.

Still, 40 slots for the practice day is quite a lot and as I have said in a previous post I have only one cheque so far. Last year we managed to fill about 30-35 places before the day and then the rest was filled on the day, might be a little more manic this year as popularity has grown but hopefully the regulars will all be present and help continue to make our events the most friendly and fun way to get your car sideways!!

I can see it working okay at the moment, but if it gets more popular it'll be a case of having to pay for the season up front to get places. sponsored/well off people will get to book the season and everyone else will be fighting for the few left overs.

I dont think you guys should worry so much as I cant really see too many people booking the whole year in one go. In fact I dont think anyone will do that, maybe some people might book two events in one hit but not the whole year.

I am confident that even those people that can only afford to pay for the events on a monthly basis will get in to the events and the regulars should'nt stress to much as OPT will look after you.

Hope that answers your question ade..
