I know that this has been covered here for people who are using a track car just for drifting but what about if you are using your road car? Thing is i don't really want to accidently put my car into a wall and get nothing back for it so i need to have it covered.

I have been quoted by Greenlight who allow trackday use but they do want £85 a time, which seems quite pricy. Anyone got any recommendations? What do you do?

Competition Car Insurance. Do a search on pistonheads.com for telephone number. Don't ask there cos people ask all the time, along with the perrenial "are tvr's really as unreliable as people make them out to be?" and "should i buy a griffith or a chimaera?" . it's getting a tad tiresome! ;)

and for heaven's sake dont take your car on a track without insurance. yes its fine if you write off your own car but what if you take out a brand new 350 modena? if that's the case you'll be force to buy one but never see/drive it yourself... assuming the driver lets you walk off the circuit ;)

unfortunatly I could not afford to drift if I insured my car for drifting  actually when racing at Silverstone, I do worry about hitting a gravel trap sideways and rolling the car, but theres nothing I can do about it, and I'm not gonna let it stop me competing.. at a practice day I would have thought that the only way to damage ur car will be hitting a cone..

Thats fair enough, i guess that may be the best way although it would be pretty scary, i couldn't afford to write my car off. Whilst on the topic though has anyone done any serious or even minor damage to their car on a drift day?

is there anyone who hasn't?

my list:

cracked and removal of front splitter hitting a tyre
dented door, offside rear 1/4, nearside rear 1/4 hitting cones
dented bonnet sliding sideways through a bollard at silversone (I think my line may have been a bit tight)
probably a little damage to radiator from gravel traps
damage to tyre legality ;)

In my 2 attempts at drifting:

Slightly dented HKS IC (hit cone head on)
Dent at top of N/S wing (hit cone with wheel and it flicked up)
Dent and scratches on N/S 1/4 (oddly enough I hit a cone)
Paint flaked off front bumper(umm, hit cone)

I had some car control issues.:wack:

If the cones were replaced with something a bit more low level there wouldnt be anywhere near as much potential damage, at least on the practice days.

 if keeping your car immaculate is important to you, you're probably better off getting another car to drift in (or be prepared to become fast friends with a local bodyshop)

my mate hit the water tractor and stoved in his rear quarter and boot lid ........lol

But that was his own fault really for going mad on the doughnut ring :P

I'm not so bothered about keeping it imaculate, its got alot of stone chips already, but i don't really want loads of dents. Still i don't really fancy selling it either, i love my s14, i guess i'll just have to chew it over.

I would think the insurance would only be for practices only, as it's not for compos.

I've done

Vertex Front Bumper £700
1 Vertex Side Skirt £300
1 R34 GTR intercooler £200
1 Custom Grill 3 times £?
dent in rear quater £?
bent 1 wing £?

all this was done at Turweston, I haven't (touch wood) done anything other than mechanical damage at Silverstone..

This thread is scaring the shit out of me :( Especially phatty's price list

Don't want to hurt my new s13!

Any hardcore drifters not damaged their car?

PhilMorrison

yeah but I have Aero, the plastic used in OE bumpers is really strong, and as I said, all that damage was caused at Turweston by cones or tyres, I think I'll be having a word about using foam cones or similar.... feckin h8 cones  :D

yep

my diff was a dodgy install, the 3rd time I had it built was completly unecessary

I think the cone issue needs sorting.

If i tokr my car there (which i would) i wouldnt be bothered about burning up my tyre, diff damage etc because you bust things like that of the road in "normal" ;) driving.

When i went to watch befire i had my 200 i saw some minted cars get mashed panels from the cones. That would really piss me off.

Yeh agreed that would piss me off too which is why i'm worried about taking my 14a and am thinking of getting an s13 for drifting. That said i am considering taking the 14a to the Jan or Feb practice (if there is one) just to see how bad it is. Saying that if i dent it up i'll be guttted.

I normally get insurance for track days but not for drifting. TBH the only thing insurance is going to rescue you from is hitting something. Mechanical wear isn't covered AFAIK. So I assume if your engine goes bang your screwed anways.

£60 a day is a lot if you add it all up. Not to mention there is already a £300 excess on anything (or is it more)?

Whats the difference? Surely drift days are just trackdays?

Well at least on a drift day I'm on the track on my own. No risk of not seeing and hitting that nutter in his Catherham or the guy taking his Ferrari out for a fast test run and ploughing into me!

it's pretty simple , YES your gonna hit somthing YES Stuff will break NO drifting is not for lax power show cars it's a full contact sport ;)

Cables ties and gaffa tape are repected

BATTLE SCARS ARE COOL

Don't do it if you dont want to make you car

Yep.. Ive said it before, and so have the guys above, but the bottom line is this:

If you dont want to damage your car, then dont drift. Thats putting it bluntly, but its as simple as that im afriad.

You will hit stuff, its just a matter of time. Ive hit a bunch of stuff (including a certain white S13 ;) ), and got off kinda lucky with alot of it. Just scratches and scuff marks mainly, but the overall appearance of my car is pretty fooking rough due to it...

At least you don't waste money poncing the car up-leave that shit to lax bowels- and can spend it on making it go stop and handle more betterer. (Been talking good England since I was a small childrens....)
And repect to all y'all that threw their cars sideways round silverstone at the final. We all hope to join you soon.:notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
