Excuse me if I'm being a bit thick here but if the race suits dont have to be fire proof then whats the point? Are they insisting on making us spend more money just so we can look pretty? And before I go off on one about race suits theres no way it would only cost be £85 to buy one, have you seen my shape? 46" chest and 28" leg, I'm sure I'll find a suit to fit me off the shelf

*EDIT*

I'm being bad here and hijacking the thread. I'll move this to its own thread.

I got a sparco cart suit for cheap money.

and it fits me nicely.. I thought I'd have to send it back. but I have odd measurements too.

48" chest 36" waist and 31" inside leg.

I went for one that fitted my chest which is designed for someone who is about 7'3" tall but it is fine.

check out the demon tweeks catalogue in the motorsport section and look under cart racing suits.

So anyway, whats the point of wearing a race suit if its not to protect the driver?

Good point tho - its like wearing a hat as a helmet really - no point

Good point Steve!

Just stick a couple of "Sparco" badges on you shoulders.

Maybe the organisers dont want you to get your clothes dirty ;)

Might as well just wear a boiler suit or a pair of speedos:eek: for all the protection a non-fireproof suit will give.

If they don't need to be fireproof it seems to make a mockery of it IMO, what's to stop you tuning up in a pair of Ferrari pyjamas claiming they are a non FIA approved non fireproof racesuit, which they would be:rolleyes:

seems weird.. and if everyone rushes out and buys their ferrari pyjamas this season and races in them what will happen next year when they change the regs? better to be safe and spend a little more today rather than buying one cheapie now and then a more expensive one later..

just my opinion..

Yeah, I agree. But on the other hand I dont want to spend money on something that theres no reason to have.

can we double check this please?
I was sure they did need to be fireproof, just not FIA approved as that bumps the price up quite a bit

I'm on the case, but the above was written my Manish..
