View Full Version : Stiffer Springs vs ARBs?
I want to make some form of initial change to my suspension in time for next years drifting but dont know whether to go down the stiffer spring or anti-roll bar route.
Apex springs will cost me 100 then there's labour on top of that then both front and back anti-roll bars will cost me 200 not including labour.
The local garage charges £60 an hour for labour and they reckon new springs will take under two hours to do. I don't have any idea how long the ARBs will take to fit though
What do you guys suggest?
I don't know much about this i'm afraid apart from all the past threads i have read here (i spent hours reading them all one night!) but i can tell you what i've decided to do.
I've decided that i will get Whiteline front and rear ARBs and a Cusco front strut brace. I'm doing this as i believe it will make a good improvement and then i can wait to get Tein or Cusco coilovers at a later date, if i improve and enjoy it that is. :)

 I'm a fan of ARB's 1st, as even with uprated springs the car still suffers from bad body roll..
Ok, do any of you know how long I should expect them to be fitted in? I don't want to be quoted 6 hours when it only takes 20 mins

Are Whiteline the best ARB makers? Any others recommended? :)

Whiteline are the cheapest available, and do my car just fine :)

ARB and Poly bushes.
Bushes are a fcuking nightmare, and i would gladly PAY everytime to have them fitted... but what a difference they made.

ARB and springs, although both in the suspension system, do completely different things. uprating one or both will have different consequences. as the name suggests, the anti roll bar controls lateral roll on the car. in other words it resists the amount of body roll the vehicle can have. it limits the rate at which one spring compresses (the outside edge) and how much the inside spring expands. too stiffer setup (huge fat bar) will limit roll to much and could have a negative effect on handling dependant upon wheel camber/castor setup and asphalt conditions (wet/dry etc). springs control the movement of the individual wheel (if they are indepenedant) in bump and droop (compress/expand). stiffening these up will give a harsher ride in a straight line due the increased pressure required to compress the spring. when it comes to cornering there will be a benefit in body roll as far as the car does need to lean harder in order to achieve a specified degree of roll but ultimately will still roll as much as a completely standard setup. in other words the best way round it is to match all components together and fit uprated everything. including dampers (why do saxo's insist on lowering themselves 100mm+ on standard shocks??!!!)
