well i recieved it for pulling a wheelie clocked at 85 mph in a 60, it was a straight road and the only traffic was the unmarked omega behind me who videoed it perfectrly and was even nice enough to play it in court to the undersexed pre menstrual jumped up bitch of a magistrate who decided i was clearly a bigger villain than any rapist/mugger/armed robber as she threatened to take it to crown court for a custodial sentance.... it was origanally a dangerous driving charge but they dropped it to wreckless banned me for a month gave me 9 points and a £400 fine!!
told me i was dangerous and out of control!!!!! clearly i was in control...
nowadays i just piss off if a copper puts the lights on...im sorry symbol if that doesnt impress you , but i actually live my life.

Well I aint proud of my points.
Got 3 many years ago and the copper apologised for giving them, but they were having an Xmas crackdown in the village. They are now off my license.
3 more for a FP @ 80 on a fast A road ... didnt know till i got the FP through the door.
6 for doing 120 on the M62 as the GF couldnt shower fast enough to get to the airport on time - fecking women
3 more FP after a unmarked tailgated me for 5 miles at 80MPH and wouldnt pass me so I booted it as he was far to close behind me ...

So 15 points, 11 years, and I only deserve 6 IMO

.09677419354 points per annum since acquiring my licence, according to my calculator.

Didn't have any points whatsoever until PC jumped out of the bushes with a handheld and clocked me doing 53 on a forty mph limit dead straight, dual carriageway with no one else on the road.

's funny but despite all the other things this particular government is taking flack for, Iraq, Education, Health, I realy think that GATSO's and speed enforcement is the one thing that pisses off Mr Average.

I absolutely despise the majority of politicians and would make not favour any, however, when the next election arrives I wouldn't mind betting that a significant factor in voting against the current lot will be their speed enforcement policy.

6 most recently for doing 106 on the A1 dual carriageway just south of alnwick

3 for doing 43mph entering a 30 zone with a copper about 4 foot off my tail oh and it was 2 am so there was literally nobody else around excluding cows and sheep and the like.

And the one i am least proud of and never likely to repeat ever, is a DR10 which got me a 12 month ban, also now doubles my insurance and all for the sake of 2mg in blood.

Breath was 34 so they had to take blood which came back 88mg with 80 being the legal limit +7.5% for some tolerance or other, still i did it, got busted and indeed suffered.

speeding is a funny thing

when ur brought up, you're taught what's wrong and right, all the moral aspects of life etc etc.. when you break the law, you are punished. if i had robbed an old lady, stolen a car, hurt someone - i would accept the wrath, but speeding doesn't feel like a 'crime' as such - because everyone has cars and we take it all for granted. doing 60 thru a busy village street is a crime - no question cos thats bloody dangerous, but how does that compare to 100mph on deserted roads?

the balance is all wrong and that's why us brits react badly to it. until cops get to use their own discretion and accept that most accidents are down to poor driving skills and lack of anticipation, we're all gonna have to fight for our licences. (well, me anyway :D)

it needs sorting. :annoyed:

exactly yorkshire...
im not proud of my points, i just find it amazing that i am viewed as bad as a thief/mugger in court and evidently by people on here for speeding... all of my convictions have been in 60mph limits when there has been no danger to myself or any other, yet i was still threatened with a prison sentance. im sure i was in far more control at 85mph on a sports bike than some old giffer doin 50 in his allegro.. some interesting views though.. but anybody that has been convicted for speeding in a 30 mph limit has no right to judge anybody as that is the only limit that should be strictly inforced....

Kev
28-11-2003, 16:54
not true, there are 30 limits in villages etc which should deffo be enforced, but what about dual carriageways or single carriageways with no population around them which still have 30 limits????????????

haulinass
28-11-2003, 17:13
a 30 limit is only used in what the local authority class as a built up area... or cicumstances that they deem it neccesary... so if you get caught speeding there you deserve the punishment as you are likely to be endangering yourself or others... now i sound like the sensible one:wack: my whole point is i was never endangering me or anybody else and was 100% in control at all times yet ive had all them points and fines.... it's crazy. yes i was stupid... stupid for getting caught!

I got 3 points for doing 42 in a 30 zone, it was 2 am and the road was empty (in canning town). The spotty little oik that stopped me actually said (and i quote) "what would you do if a little child run out in front of you and you couldnt stop?" Now i felt the only reply was "Ask you to go and arrest the childs mother for letting her LITTLE child out at 2 AM" a fair comment i thought but the copper wasnt happy. There are laws and limits because 99% of the drivers on the road are arseholes who couldn't drive safely to save their sorry little lives.
You have to have some kind of measures in place, some kind of limits and framework to try and minimse the effects of these snotnoses on every other driver on the road at the same time - 99% of whom couldn't avoid an accident even if it was dressed in a pink Tutu, riding a white elephant singing O Fortuna at the top of its voice.

Don't get me wrong. I dislike most speed limits since they are rarely based on the road conditions at the time (which is what I tend to drive to). But you have to have some kind of framework or complete total chaos will ensue.

To address the point about 100mph on a deserted backroad.
I happen to live just off one of these roads and there is a member of this board who has admitted coming over the crest of the hill at upwards of a ton.
Given that this is a blind hill with enough of a dip to easily loose a car in (esp if you are in something low), this is decidely foolish. Factor in deer, pheasents, badgers, cyclists, motorcyclists, cars broken down (have had a few of them), plenty of trees giving plenty of leaves, farm vehicles leaving mud etc - what I'm trying to say is that this is probably one of the more stupid places to be doing over a ton. Yes it can be a quiet backroad. But more to the point it is pretty deadly. (btw I have got great respect for this particular board member in every matter bar this one)

OK, so there may be long stretches of roadwhich are clear over which you may do a ton (and yes, even St. Starion has done this!!! ;) ) but these are fairly few and far between. And I'll wager that these stretches of road are usually shrouded in tree cover, masking pretty much any animal under the sun....

The point is... if you're going to speed, do it where you ain't gonna get caught and where you are unlikely to encounter the 99% ofdozy barstewards who will make you get into an accident or be unable to get out of the way should you take a corner a little vigorously...

Tenman

heh, have to agree with Ponyboy on this one, only problem is the council round here have just completly ****ed over my favorite safe country road for a blast down by putting a load of speed calming measure all the way through the village to get to it.. I'm talking about 3 miles of the bastards and there's no way I'm gonna kill my suspension by going through that lot, the other place that was any good is now randomly targetted by a camera van after some muppet lost control of his saab on there and killed himself and his passenger

err, i said i never was a boy racer and never will be.. i'll drive quick when the road allows it to a degree of safety.. my youth was spent riding fast bikes.. and there is no room for mistakes on a bike, i know this having lost 2 good friends over the years. my hole point to this thread was how stupid i was to get caught for such petty things and be punished so badly for them. but now i am wiser and don't get caught. i still ride a fast bike and im still alive... accidents are caused by driver error... if i was a t*at i would be dead by now wouldnt i....

Don't have any points, but I don't know how - just lucky I guess! I'm good in built up areas - I'd never forgive myself if I drove over a childs head - but when I get to a de-restricted area of highway I take it all too literally. hate to say it mate but i think the guys have got a bit of a point on this one.

There is no justification for what you did, pulling a wheelie at that kinda speed is never going to be 100% safe and the fact that the ol bill car was behind you close enough to video it means you had done it in a place where there were other cars present. Regardless of how good your control of the machine was, which im not even questioning, you took an unnecessary risk which could have endangered others, meaning you are guilty of the offence to which they prosecuted you.

You can have no argument with the sentence - whether it was harsh or not - what you had done was reckless and was prosecutable

But i see ur point, we all had our "youth" and our silly moments, in fact some of us still do it (maybe to a lesser extent).

As for my silly moment; took a mates motor down off ramps once (all of 10 yard back, 10 yards forwards) and a copper busted me for no insurance :wack: 6 points and an ickle fine

I've done my fair share of madness on the roads.

Luckily (or should that be foolishly?) been flashed by cameras 7 times that had had no film inside them. I've never been stopped by the Police except for once which was a spot check (ie where are you from?, where are you going?, etc). Sometimes I wasn't aware of the camera or I decided to risk against the fact that the camera had no film in it and go hell for leather! I've also once noticed a cop (sitting in his car) looking at me as I drove past him at 45mph in a 30mph zone. Quickly slowed down, but he didn't appear in my rear view mirror and I didn't get any sort of paperwork from them.

I've been driving since I was 17 (25 now) so am starting to slow down a bit, but I do agree the speed limits in most places verge on the ridiculous as they do not adjust for driver abilty, weather conditions and so on.

in nearly 19 years driving. 0

however that's probably because for the first 15 years the police had discretion.

picture the scene

3.30 in the morning. full moon. dry. july.
me in fiat strada 1.3 cl.
progressing down watery lane (battlesbridge to hullbridge for the essex possy)
see a cars head lights a way back. obviously increase speed. he is gaining, so i go faster, he's still gaining.

the race is on. corners taken on the racing line. very late braking, and jumped the little hump back bridge.

got into hullbridge (30) dropped it to 40. half way up the hill he put on the disco lights.

ooooo :furious: :censored: said i.

Cop "good morning sir."
Me "good morning"
c "do you know the speed limit on this road?"
m "yes, it's 30"
c " do you know how fast you were driving?"
m "yes, i was doing 40"
c "where are you going?"
m "home, Rochford"
C " have you been drinking?"
m "ohh no, never when i drive"
c "ok, i know it's nearly 4 oclock, but in the future it's probably a good idea to stick to the speed limit, if you can see another car. Drive carefully, good night"

like that would happen these days

mr-mac
12-12-2003, 13:11
And the people who have died on the roads doing things like this would have typed the same statements - said the same things etc...

every time you get in a car it's a calculated risk if you stick to the limits or not, drift it or not...

And it is usually somthing out of your control that causes it - broken down car on a corner (can't stop in time), diesel spill on the road etc... etc....

The faster you go when somthing out of your control happens the less latitude you have to do anything about it. eventully some people go so fast there is not any safety margin left.

I am not telling anyone to stop going fast - I do it myself - I do know it is a higher risk and don't use the better driver than most excuse.

Anyway 0 points but just back from a 5 year ban

It's not as bad as careless or as deliberatly dangerous as some of the things I have seen posted over my time as a member but it sounds worse then it was. I am not proud of it and it's in the past.

Nobody was seriuosly hurt and I didn't hit another car, it's just one of those things.

Anyway I'm glad I'm still alive.

Best one I heard of was my dad -

He was driving along a road in his old Land Rover Discovery. There were cars parked on both sides of the road, and traffic coming in both directions. Some pillock opened there door just as my dad was passing them, and he ripped the door clean of the hinges!

He was taken to court, got points on his licence, fined, and had to claim for the door!

Aren't you told to look before you open your door onto the road????

I think that was a little unfair IMO!

Colin
