Hi

I have been driving my 200SX for about a year and have left it in standard form. I reckon I'm ready for a bit more oomph http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

I know bits and pieces about tuning but not much specific to the S14. I saw some complete packages on the Norris Deisgns website and wondered if anyone had any opinions of them?

They don't say what the packages contain but they claim 240hp or 270hp for the first two - the ones I'm most likely to go for. Anyone know what's in 'em and is it any good??

Thanks,

Nick (Ipswich).

BTW, are there any good FAQs about tuning S14s for newbies like me? http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

This doesn't answer your question or anything, but i notice that you are from my home town. Good to have another suffolk chap on the board (although i now live in southampton).

Hi Nick, about time you started modding me thinks....lol http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

The ND 240 is:

Boost upgrade / Zorst / Induction kit

The ND 270 is:

As above + FMIC and running @ 17psi

Hope that helps.

.. more of another question than an answer, but is anyone running high boost on an S14 with standard 95 octane ? I swear the compression ratio is too high to increase the boost on 95 octane.
Anyone know ? It would help me decide whether to go for an ND boost upgrade too http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Hi! I'm not originally from Suffolk but I like it here http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif I have a great drive to work from my village to Ipswich along winding country lanes.

Hi Dan,

Do you know how they implement the boost upgrade. Is it just a modified actuator or a bleed valve? I presume this is now 15psi.

FMIC... Front mounted InterCooler?

Learnt to drive out there on them country lanes. Excellent roads, with very little traffic, except tractors/horses. I used to regulary go from woodbrigde to otley, and it was just a blast if a bit narrow, specially in a 7 series beemer (cringe). I miss the place though, the pace of life is soooo much slower there and stress is just six letter word.

Yeah, I live in Stonham which is OK but we are trying to move to Great Bealings which is a lovely area. House price round here are http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/eek.gif recently...

Ipswich is realy prime area for commuters into london, so i am surprised it has taken this long to for house prices to rocket though. Still, they are cheaper there than in southampton. Where abouts is great bealing anyway? Know most of the ipswich area, cant place it though.

I still go up to see my parents in woodbridge a fair bit,so if you see a midnight blue S13, G297 ***, with mongoose farting away it's probably me.

P.S. Go for the ND270 conversion. The larger intercooler will help keep the turbo sweet which is always a good thing.

I'm surpised nobody has got the uprated IC from ND. It keeps the cool enough for up 20psi or around 300bhp.
Anything above that and you'd have to strengthen the engine, at that point I'd probably just buy a faster car.
A Skyline hopefully one day?

If I do upgrade the IC I like the idea of one that slots straight in the same place, that way I don't have to cut the car up!!!

I also wouldn't bother telling the Greedy Money Grabbing B******s (Insurers).

Great Bealing is not far from Woodbridge, if you turn off the Woodbridge->Otley road and go through Grundisburgh, it's down there somewhere. Nice and quite the way I like it. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

I'll check out the ND270 but their intercoolers are about a grand aren't they? Does anyone know what exhaust they use, how loud it is, if it cuts out the cat (my car = 1998) and if it's available in stainless?

Yep now i know it. Vechicle surgeon used was down that road, always used to go there for an MOT as it is/was a good garage, M J Ladd was the guy who used to run it and was one of the few garages who would let you get in the pit with them as they were dong the test and when i had my old rust buckets it was always good to have a look underneath them. Don't know if he still operates. He used to have a corvette stingray at his garage, his words on were "good in straight line, which means i can't drive it around here then".

And your right it is very quiet out there, i very nearly moved to Clopton for the very same reasons.

Actually, I remember what it was I wrote now (well most of it anyway). So here goes m8.

The ND boost upgrade is an uprated actuator, although you could get an adjustable controller if your budget will allow.

FMIC = Front Mounted Intercooler, as you said.

You get a choice of zorst and Induction kit, they do Janspeed / Mongoose / HKS / Blitz http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif Zorsts and K&N / Trust / HKS / Blitz http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif (see pattern here http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif) filters. So it depends on what you wanna spend.

Point worth noting, the standard intercooler is efficient to just over 300bhp, so it depends how far you wanna go. I know poeple have made 330bhp efficiently with the standard intercooler. Personally, I'd leave it a while and spend the money on getting the best zorst, filter and a boost controller instead of just getting an uprated actuator. Also, think about taking out the CAT and replacing it with a straight through pipe. You can store the CAT ready for the MOT, the guys who did my MOT didn't even bother to put it back on for me (like I asked) they just passd it!

OK thx.

One thing though. If the ND270 package only adds a FMIC and 2 more psi to the ND240, that would suggest that it's much better than the standard IC. Unless they are just trying to get your cash http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

And how come it allows you to exceed 15psi? I thought that the cooler the air, the greater the volume (hence the power) but the pressure remains the same. I like to talk myself into confusion..!

Daniel san
03-08-2001, 15:45
The actuator can be set up to 20psi.
