Out with the missus and a couple of friends on a long (100+ mile) journey.Anyway arrive home early sunday morning when its dead quiet. As Missus gets out of car she says "whats that hissing?" Now I know she's got exceptional hearing she can hear me cursin' under my breath from 50' away. Anyway I feel it necessary to investigate before cooldown so I'm having a look at 3.00am in the morning.
Find a drop of water sizzling on the catalyst, from above, find its condensate from the aircon dropping from the "overflow pipe" down on the very top of heat shield and then running down onto the hot bit of the catalyst. All normal.
Beware false alarms !

Yeah, heard that, felt that, realised that. I woonder why they design the thing to drip onto the manifold like that. The old s14's didn't do it.

Err, one's doing it today.

I've never noticed it before, but looking under the car, I saw a water leak that looked exactly like one I had that cost hundreds to put right. Opening the bonnet I could see the water was coming from a little rubber pipe (air con) and would have been dripping onto the manifold heat shield if mine was fitted.
