View Full Version : Photo printers
So I'm looking to get a photo printer, I was going to get the Epson 915 or 925 but I've read bad reviews and now I'm not so sure. I'm looking to spend up to £150
Any recommendations for me guys?
I've always liked epson, you get what you pay for more money better quality, but my epson was beaten up dropped, dimantled and put back together and still worked:D
Cannon are shite or at least their ink is, tends to smudge, HP I don't know about...
i recently bought the epson stylus photo 830u, no complaints whatsoever, perfect quality prints.
the original cartridges are about £15-£20 each (1 black, 1 with 5 colours)
however there's a site that does one of each for £8, the cartrifges themselves are chipped, which is why they cost a bit more than some.

thats where i get the cartridges from.
they are good quality too, couldnt tell the difference, (Pheonix branded)

I've had an epson - broke after 6 months after costing me a fortune in inks.
Now have a canon S600 which is brill and does not smudge at all!
Quick too next to the epson:thumbs:

I have a HP Deskjet 970Cxi, photos are great on quality glossy photo paper and its a reliable workhorse for churning out documents too, quite quick :)

i got the epson 900 photo which prints straight on to the top of printable cd's or dvds.
the quality in it is amazing, i get my cartridges for £3.50 and £4.50 from the link in my sig :Plug:
this is a top quality printer. I have 15 Hp of a wide variety and my epson is 10 times better than them and the cost of cartridges is a major swayer for me.
Some of our HP's in work will not allow you to use remake ink cartridges only genuine :furious:
Go for the epson :Plug:
I've done a bit more digging and I quite like the look of this one

How about a price drop?

:D
The links don't work girl!
Anyways, the cartridges are really expensive for the HP - £20 and there wasn't many places that listed them. I've just ordered one of these http://www.epson.co.uk/product/printers/photo/styphotor300/ because the cartridges are half the price, hope I've made the right decision......

Look at the cartridges before you buy! Some come with just one cartridge, you dont want that. Get a seperate black, then a seperate color.

Looks a good choice - one of the drawbacks of epson printers is they won't let you change the ink when it's really run out, only when the printer says it's run out - a good while before that!
You can get software to overide the printer controls and save ink. Epson says that as the print heads should never dry out the software will always require you to change the inks when there is an appreciable amount of ink still in the pots!
Do you have an image editor such as Paint Shop or Adobe photoshop? Cos you'll need one of those to tweak your images. What you get on the screen is never the same as what you get on your (expensive) photo paper!:D
Happy printing
