Just bought it for my newly acquired PS2 (£40 from a mate for the console :D ). I know it's very rice, but I really like it :)
Gameplay is excellent, the graphics are awesome, and there's drift competitions in it :thumbs:
Anyone else got it? :)
anyone used it on the pc and the ps2? i wanna know which is better :)
I didn't know it was out on the PC? The PS2 version is pretty good tho - I can't see a PC hadling the graphics without a pretty serious graphics card (or at least a better graphics card than my 3,000 yr old 64Mb G-Force 2!).
The only thing I don't like about the game so far is that you have to fit gay bodykits and even neons :cry: to your car in order to up your 'reputation' multiplier, and therefore score more points. My poor ickle MX-5 :cry: :annoyed:
I've managed to keep it reasonably tasteful so far (apart from the bloody neons, I wish they did invisible ones), but it's going to become increasingly hard, I feel :)

the demo works fine on mine (128mb GF4), dunno what the minimum you need to run it tho :confused:
If the X-box can run it on its shite processor and crappy graphics card, you can bet the PC version will fly as they will share almost identical code :)
Played it on X-box last night round a mates, got him to turn the stability mode off, and proceeded to pull some awsome drifts, will into the 100,000 style points mark with me S13 :)
What a cool game, think the PC version shall be appearing on my doorstep soon ;)

so do you have to score points to progress then? or do you win money?
You win money, you also score stlye points (for doing drifts, powerslides, near misses with oncoming traffic etc) that your reputation multiplier increases.
I bought a cube and this as the first game :) (Cubes ace value btw).
The races are fast and fun I never thought they could make a 1/4 mile remotley interesting in a computer game but its fecking complicated especially when you get nos (lots of blown engines).
Its not GT4 or 3 but its actually a good bit of fun. The only thing thats a bit crap on it are the engine sounds but they seem to be getting better as the cars get better.
Atm I've got hold of a chrysler neon with all stage 1 mods and a "unique" carbon fibre bonnet I won in a race (which strangley looks just like phattys !) and now its modded a bit, its ok but I am getting peev'ed waiting to get access to a decent jap car. The most powerful I seem to have unlocked so far is an integra and a hyundai coupe.
Drifting is hard I've found the best way to do it is to get in car and go fast as fook speed = points it seems.
But me wants decent car :(

Neon!? Are you insane? There's a perfectly good MX-5 available right at the start, which might be a bit hairdressery, but at least it's RWD! :)
Drifting is so much easier with a proper-wheel-drive car, I wouldn't even attempt it in a FWD :no:

Got it yesterday it is a wicked game.
started with a civic then 240sx then a supra now im on to a s2ooo with nearly stage 3 on everything.
it starts to get really hard towards the end i see broken joypads in the future.

car of choice - 240sx turbo (of course) made it look ideatical to mine (apart from a cool carbon fibre bonnet) so i can at least pretend im driving it!

About 25000 for 1 drift I think, but this is in an MX-5 with only stage 1 mods - the captions went superb, colossal, outrageous! :D
Must play more so I can get me 240SX, it's taking longer 'cos I'm playing every race on 'hard' to get more dough :D

Sadly the Xbox version doesn't have online play cos of some thing going on between Microsoft and EA... PC and PS2 versions are online enabled tho...

I think they should do drag racing events with oncoming traffic for real, fantastic. Though I'm not sure I'd be happy about going over train lines ...
Right, after (far) too much PS2, I have finally worked my way thorough the game enough, and I have been able to trade my MX-5 in for...
...An S13 240SX in dark grey :smitten:
I have of course turbocharged it, nitrous etc, it also has a carbon bonnet with some tasteful louvres in it, and some nice multi-spoke alloys, in black of course :D
It's very dorifto looking, and I'm happy to say, nothing like any of the other garish w*nk machines in the game :thumbs:
I can't believe that there's only been 2 RWD cars available in the game so far, the rest were all FWD :rant:

me personaly i luuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeee this game:smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :nod: :nod: few fantastic bits on it such as makein a s13 look like phattys car as has been mentioned before the graphics are sublime really like the speed blur drift competitions are nice too my current wagon is the s13 made to look nothin like mine :( but is mucho tasteful the game is impresively fast too took it to me mates before who likes his m*x pooer jesus i feel dirty after sayin that he is now gonna buy it for his ps2 he took the neon and i was in the sx on the drag racein now why cant mine do 193mph it just isnt fair but the bonnet i have on mine is the same as phattys more or less fantastic game tho very recomended
ps. was mentioned before the cars sound weedy this only applys to the first batch once you start gettin the faster cars the sound real nice but all in all a bloody fantastic game shows midnight club 2 whos boss anyway:nod: :nod: :nod:

Hmmmmmm... after a few races I've got my MX5 up to stage 2 stuff I think, I've managed a 65ishk point drift which didn't seem too bad :) MAnaged to drift a lap and a half of the second course :)
Tbh the game isn't that good, nfs hp2 was better. Proper cars, none of this ford focus rubbish.
Where can you get you get the PC demo from? Had a look on official EA NFS site and it says " Look for the PC Demo coming soon! "

Installed this last night and my first impressions were poor. It's very arcady and nowhere near the same superb racing experience of www.liveforspeed.net
I'll give it another go tonight but i'm not very hopeful

That's what I thought. It's ok but gets a bit boring quickly. You can do most of the circuits without lifting off the accelerator once.

It's supposed to be arcade-like, that's the point. What else were you expecting? :)
It doesn't proclaim to be a driving simulator like LFS or GT3 (far superior to LFS IMO), it's just supposed to be fun, which I think it is.
i really like it, takes a bit of getting used to, but the speed of it is immense! once you start getting the stage 2 stuff on the car you really do have to drive it, and things are moving sooooooo fast that i have to brake so that my brain can keep up!! :D :smash:

ah well, it means i can drive a modded 200 (well 240) which is good enough for me, and helps the withdrawl symptons...
p.s. my car looks hard as feck, gloss black, 19" black wheels, blacked out windows, big @rse brakes w/ gold callipers, c/ f bonnet, stage 2 bodykit stuff, roof scoop, drag spoiler + it spits flames too! woo!

Yeah it is fecking fast isn't it :eek:
There's one track where you're driving under an underpass and the road goes very windy, and if you get it right you can weave through all the pillars at top speed in a straight line! Very scary though, and almost impossible to judge. Know the bit I mean? :)
My S13 is dark grey, with the CF bonnet with the three big louvres either side, tasteful (but nice and low) bumpers and sideskirts, black 18" OZ wheels :smitten:, bronze coloured calipers, and red and blue engine detailing, roof scoop and a nice fat tailpipe :D
It also has decals down the doors, HKS, GReddy, A'pexi, Brembo, I have made sure I have parts made by all these companies fitted though! :thumbs:
I love the drift mode, I'm the daddy at it, everything else is sooo hard in comparison! :)
i know the bit you mean, i think i worked out that you can go straight through the pillars just by luck - i didnt even see them! or the track where your going up a closed road, just before the BIG jump over the river, its up hill & narrow & sooooooo quick!!
i did have 18's on, but then i managed to win a set of 19's & with the stage 2 suspension which drops it more, it looks pure evil!
stage 2 turbo pops flame at the start, cant wait to see the stage 4!! :notworthy
I've got through it once or twice, as you say, just by luck, when I try to do it on purpose, I always crash. I normally just brake for it now. And yeah, I know the bit you're describing, it's nasty!
Haven't got far enough to get the 19" wheels yet, not totally sure if I want to, I had the deep dish 17" Enkeis on my car before I got the 18s, and I thought it looked better on the 17s, but flippin' reputation multiplier an all. I raced either a 240SX or a 180SX on one track with Kouki rear lights on, can't wait to get access to those! :D
I use the bumper view so I can't see flames coming out of my zorst, bet it's impressive tho! :)

i keep winning vinyls which i refuse to put on my car, but i got a nasty feeling im going to have to for the reputation multiplier:rolleyes: i toyed with the idea of a greddy one down the side, which i deem as acceptable as i put the greddy turbo kit on it
i got all the drift tracks now too :notworthy im getting well good but still cant top 32000 for one drift:annoyed:

Nope, I'm pretty sure vinyls and decals don't affect your reputation multiplier at all, just the same as paint doesn't :)
BTW, I take it you had to fit neons, also for the multiplier? I went for the white ones, 'cos you can hardly see them, they're so feeble :thumbs:

in the options, theres some black ones that you can get, but there locked at the mo, ill ave them when i can get them, but i got white too at the mo... :)
i think the paint can affect your reputation, when you go from the standard colours to gloss or metallic your rep goes up.
problem is i really want a bodykit for my car now [the real one] after seeing how good some of the bits look :smitten:
when your one the start line in a race, rev the engine and press & hold the nitrous button, it looks excellent, you get a NOS purge and you get away sooo quick!!

Ah yeah, I haven't got that far yet, still on the std colours, which is fine by me, 'cos my NFS S13 is the same colour as my real one :D
I know what you mean about the kits, but it's gotta be performance first for me! My real S13 just looks like it's been lowered with wheels at the moment, you have to look harder to see the subtle other things, like the lack of spolier, larger than usual twin tailpipes (Goose), and the 4 pot brakes. Street sleeper, as they would say in the game ;)

I had an MX-5 to start with too, looked cool when I put all me drift stylee bits on it :thumbs:

Got my GTR last night and it is utterly mad :D I've done over 190mph in it so far :D
I have never come across a racing game where 100 mph actually felt fast, I am so impressed with this game.
Only problems with it so far is that it doesn't let you have stock alloys once you have bought aftermarket ones, which is a shame in the case of the R34 GTR, as it's alloys are the nicest on the planet (aftermarket or otherwise), and it doesn't let you have stock colours, again a shame in the case of the R34 as you can't get Bayside Blue. So I have done mine up like the JUN Hyperlemon :D
Plus it would be nice to be able to buy individual bits, like an exhaust, or a BOV, or an air filter, rather than having the whole lot bundled together in a package.

or do what i did in the 200...... do a run thats sooo quick that you actually cross the line before the train is there!!

I used the nos at the end and blasted past it
I found in the demo that you get a better time by NOSing through the gears than just using it all in 6th at the end.

Interesting... trouble is I find it really hard to use the NOS and get good shifts in as well, the revs just shoot up :o

Glad it forces you to use a manual shift as well, makes you concentrate a bit harder...

i'm bored already with it... tracks are not really challenging cars have little difference in feel. It's awful. Plus the whole idea of modding a car is to get some sort of tuning variables but this game just doesn't offer that.
The only one thing in it's favour is at high speed the game is DAMN fast. But that doesn't really mean much when at 130mph you can just yank the wheel and it goes around a corner.

If only someone would create the same fantastic graphics engine and stick a real racing model behind it.
Even the drifing is easy, 15 laps and i'd soon learnt how to get 25k+ drifts. Boooooooring
I think the trouble is, yeager, you like your games to be properly challenging, which is fair enough :)
I, however, am lazy, and don't have a huge amount of patience, so if I can't get the hang of it fairly quickly I get bored. I think you'll find if you stick with it however, it does become quite a bit harder as you progress.

God damn I'm getting frustrated with one of the knockout races, just can't fcuking do it, got down to the last 2 and he always pips me to the post and it's on easy!!!! :o

Strangely enough, i use the rx7 (on quick race mode) and it is the best drift car by far, 240 not too good at it.
i wish you could watch replys of it, after 40000 points or so it goes from 'outrageous' to 'insane!!' drift :D
the rx7 is awesome, i like the way that the engine & exhaust note changes as you modify the car :thumbs:

If you think that's hard, wait until you get onto some of the 6 lap races, I seem to be able to do 5 laps in the lead, and then I always cock it up on the last lap :o

Yeah that happens too, but I think the main reason is I start to think about it too hard, so I turn in too early and hit stuff, or I use my Nitrous which I've saved up for the last lap, which means I'm going faster than I thought I was, etc.

few thought it was just me that happens to :annoyed: i allways use my nos on the first lap and when i need it i dont have it haha or i go thought the construction but and jump to far and land facing the wrong way
i tend to use all my nitrous right off the start, to get away from the other cars, so you dont get slowed down hitting them etc etc..
Plus purging the nos on the start line looks good:cool:
i find that because all the tracks have the same bits in them, you tend to forget whic htrack your on, and take a left when its a right etc etc... normally right at the end of a race, so ill end up last:mad:

I chose the mx5 1st, now got a 240sx with all the fancy bits. Initially I found I was getting beaten off the start line by 206s & golfs, surely not! they should be going scrabble scrabble as I make a clean getaway I thought. Anyone else experienced this?

It's not like GT3 which has very disctinctive tracks, so once you know one you know it. But the plus side is that you get to know a lot of corners and sections very well :)

The game tends to stitch you up...
There have been countless times where i have been racing on a 5-6 lap race and been in 1st all the way when on the last lap about 20 seconds from the finish you will hit something... whether a car comes out of nowhere or loose control of the car...
Now THAT annoys me!

Haven't unlock the one that you can use in the Underground mode yet so I can't comment on a modded one. But in Quick Race mode the bonus cars are mainly just pretty cars, i.e. not that fast. Still not bad for drifting with the stability control turned off.

RX7 is a drift monster, I managed a 26k drift using the keyboard and was quite please with myself.
Im sure with a proper controller you could drift it all day long :D

MX5 is a great car, handles well in the game. Only really changed it for the 240sx for sentimental reasons.

I've completed the game so the keyboard is more than up to the task :D (although its bloody hard when you cant steer and use nitrous at the same time due to the keyboard not liking more than two keys pressed at once).

Best drift score on Drift track 6 (10 lap mode, hard) was 376,000 total, with a 58k drift thrown in for good measure :) Did that in Supra, managed to keep it sliding just about all the way around the course :D
That was about the only enjoyment I got out of the game tho, being forced to put neons and vinyls that I didnt like for the sake of more points kinda ruined it for me :) :no:
Best drift track is no. 5, got max score of 570,000 [10 laps]
and a top of 129000 :D
the rx7 is blatantly the best car, dont put the widebody kit on it, not as good for drifting:thumbs:

Still don't know how anyone can compare it to Gran Turismo though. It's not even close.
its no gran turismo - but it entertains you to an equal amount by being a very fun arcade game, whereas GT is a very involving and realistic game :thumbs:
the skyline is ... well disappointing :(
You get the RX7 and the Skyline within about 4 races of each other and the RX7 is better IMO, Skyline suffers from horrible understeer and is SLOWER through the gears despite having a faster getaway.

Was just about to post that up... when AntS13 was here I was hitting 50k drifts... but I netted an awesome 142K drift on the 4th drift course in my 240SX. It's hard to keep things going but once you get in a rythm it's gravy.
I manage about 500,000 point's per drift event on average... w/ 10 laps.

Completed the game :) Race 112/111
The last race is quite hard, because if you crash it is almost impossible to catch the bugger.
You have to race against a 350Z.
I started to use the Skyline but as people have said before, it isnt that good. I ended up using the 350Z.
I honestly think its a great game.. but still doesnt touch GT3 for graphics or drivability.
Just waiting for GT4 to be released.

The more races you do and points you get, the more you unlock. Personally, I wouldn't bother with any other cars until you unlock the 240SX. The Mitsubishi Lancer you unlock early on is not an Evo and would therefore be FWD. One good thing about changing your car is all your mods carry over to the new one so you don't have to start all over again :thumbs:

You should unlock the first of the stage 1 mods very soon into the game, after about 11 races or something. If you race each one on hard (which is actually pretty easy until about race 45), you unlock things much faster :)
